Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.
I was thinking about this board game the other day and the thought occurred to me that it should really have an additional feature that introduces the option of becoming a regular user of alcoholic beverages. When I look back at how much alcohol has influenced my life, it is both amazing and depressing. Lately I have been struck with the thought of how much more I might have accomplished had I not attached myself to the anchor of alcohol addiction for over 45 years. I have gone 4 months now without any alcohol and my mind has awakened to a whole new world of possibilities and creativity. I almost cringe at the thought of how much time I wasted feeling hung-over and recovering from those nights of heavy drinking.
Thanks to all of you for listening to my sometimes rambling analysis of my alcohol addiction over these past months. I sincerely believe my participation in this discussion group has made my transition into the sober world much easier. And thanks to Allen Carr, Martin Nicolaus and Kevin O'Hara too!
Not one of us has all the right answers, but everyone demonstrates a sincere interest in helping others get beyond alcohol. That is a really cool thing.

I recently heard a great 2007 song the other day, "Falling Slowly" because it popped up in my newsfeed, accompanied by the sad news that the male singer, Glen Hansard, just died in a motorcycle accident. I learned that the song won an award and was featured in an indie movie called Once. I just watched it, and it's really good. They made it in 3 weeks on a $100,000 budget. It's streaming on...
It pissed me off hearing that at good news but oh so true! Hang in there baby!

I can also look back at the years wasted under the influence with regret and disappointment and wonder what the possibilities could have been without my addiction.
Some Christians claim to have a rebirth when they have a spiritual epiphany. Sobriety has given me a rebirth of sorts, and I am so grateful for my new life that I rarely look back. In fact, I resist recalling my past behavior unless there is some unfinished business to attend to, such as an act of contrition with a family member or friend.
Congrats on four months sobriety and your new life!
