Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.

When I first became sober I started having cravings for sugar all the time & kinda went crazy with it lol. It didn’t really matter because I don’t have problems gaining weight or anything but figured it probably wasn’t good for my teeth & other stuff health wise in general. Anyways I’m rambling… but yea after my long sugar abstinence I will only eat sugar like once in a blue moon now, I don’t even use it in my coffee anymore or anything & I don’t know what it is but generally feel better & don’t even crave it.
Pumpkin pie sounds really good though it’s my favorite
You’re so rite, physical & mental habits are super hard to break for sure
Sending you support, one moment at a time
Big hugs <3 <3 <3
I have this neighbor who brings me over baked goods almost every day. I have gained weight due to my inability to say no to this very nice woman. She has some health issues and I don't want to come across as being negative toward her. I definitely don't want her to feel guilty.
Sugar is a drug and having addictive behavior.....if it's in my house, I will eat it....It's just a matter of time.
I can remember before I even drank how I just downed milk which is lactose I would go to my grandparents and the milk would be gone by breakfast and we would have to make powdered milk.
The body gets a positive endorphin rush from sugar much like a shot of booze.
I remember the first few years I quit booze and I would go to Dairy Queen every day at like 4 o’clock and get a chocolate shake somehow this tricked my body for awhile. Then I started to get such a crash from the sugar dump that at about six would feel so bad my head would hurt like a hangover, and I was wondering what the hell is wrong with me finally I was able to realize my metabolism for sugar had gone down and I eliminated the afternoon ice cream And my head felt so much better
The relationship between the alcoholic and sugar is not some thing to be taken lightly
I have seen many ppl quit booze and substitute sugar to make the brain feel normal. This new sugar addiction should be treated in a similar way.
Good luck. The part I finally realized was just to have sugar and carbs in MODERATION , but that’s not my strong suit…
From Wiki
Sugar is the generic name for sweet-tasting, soluble carbohydrates, many of which are used in food. Simple sugars, also called monosaccharides, include glucose, fructose, and galactose. Compound sugars, also called disaccharides or double sugars, are molecules made of two bonded monosaccharides; common examples are sucrose (glucose + fructose), lactose (glucose + galactose), and maltose (two molecules of glucose). White sugar is a refined form of sucrose. In the body, compound sugars are hydrolysed into simple sugars.

Longer chains of monosaccharides (>2) are not regarded as sugars and are called oligosaccharides or polysaccharides. Starch is a glucose polymer found in plants, the most abundant source of energy in human food. Some other chemical substances, such as ethylene glycol, glycerol and sugar alcohols, may have a sweet taste but are not classified as sugar.
Sugars are found in the tissues of most plants. Honey and fruits are abundant natural sources of simple sugars. Sucrose is especially concentrated in sugarcane and sugar beet, making them ideal for efficient commercial extraction to make refined sugar. In 2016, the combined world production of those two crops was about two billion tonnes. Maltose may be produced by malting grain. Lactose is the only sugar that cannot be extracted from plants. It can only be found in milk, including human breast milk, and in some dairy products. A cheap source of sugar is corn syrup, industrially produced by converting corn starch into sugars, such as maltose, fructose and glucose.
Sucrose is used in prepared foods (e.g. cookies and cakes), is sometimes added to commercially available processed food and beverages, and may be used by people as a sweetener for foods (e.g. toast and cereal) and beverages (e.g. coffee and tea). The average person consumes about 24 kilograms (53 pounds) of sugar each year, with North and South Americans consuming up to 50 kg (110 lb) and Africans consuming under 20 kg (44 lb).[1]
As sugar consumption grew in the latter part of the 20th century, researchers began to examine whether a diet high in sugar, especially refined sugar, was damaging to human health. Excessive consumption of sugar is associated with obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, cancer and tooth decay.[2] In 2015, the World Health Organization strongly recommended that adults and children reduce their intake of free sugars to less than 10%, and encouraged a reduction to below 5%, of their total energy intake
@bob, a neighbor like that would be a problem for me:)
@missy, you’re right, after some time away from sugar it’s easier. I always feel better w/o it, especially in the heat. But, just like everything else that’s healthy for me, I need to maintain a daily practice or I forget quickly.
Thanks 1is2! Well said and the info is great for all of us. It’s taken a while for me to understand and admit that I have an unhealthy relationship with sugar, which started immediately after quitting alcohol
Summer is a good time for me to reset my diet because of my garden diet and exercise.
