Hello my name is Erika. I'm new to this so I'm not sure where to start. Long story short, my 15 year old brother in law has been living with his mother that is struggling with alcoholism for a long time. Unfortunately she gets very angry when she is drinking. Since school is on summer break, he came to stay with us. Had an argument with the mother recently and now she is demanding my husband and I to send the child back to her. He's been struggling with this emotionally, which is one of the reasons he came out to stay with us, and does not want to go back.
What should I do?

I accidentally deleted a journal entry that I wish I hadn't. Is there any way to get it back?

Instead of going to work I slept in until 11 am Now I'm treating myself at McAllister's to a Spud Max. When I go back tomorrow it will be Friday!
If he truly feels unsafe or is experiencing emotional or physical abuse when he's with his mother, I would take those concerns seriously. Since he's only 15, this may be something that needs guidance from a trusted adult, school counselor, attorney, or your local child protective services, depending on the circumstances.
I also encourage you to look for a local Al-Anon meeting. Al-Anon is for family members and friends of people struggling with alcoholism, and you'll find others there who have faced difficult situations like this. They can offer practical support as you decide what to do next.
In the meantime, keep letting your brother-in-law know that he's loved, heard, and that none of this is his fault. Having even one safe, caring home can make an enormous difference in a young person's life.
