Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.

Life deals some bad blows, the thing to know is it will pass.

I don't have to think about "not drinking"; in fact, I don't think about drinkg alcohol at all. It is a mute point.
If you don't mind me asking, why must you "start over" after surgery? You have the same skill set, do you not?
I don't have years of sobriety but I think we can all relate to the stressors and what we do when we have to deal with bumps in the road.
I see my counsellor every other week but for specific alcohol related I would seek the advice from my friend who is also a recovered alcoholic.
But what probably helps me the most is exercising. I'm a runner and running helps me clear my head, re-focus and stay on my path going forward. I realise you've had back surgery and running may not be an option but another form of exercise or meditation might help.
I had to change career about 12 years ago and I appreciate how disheartening it can be at times but try to keep at it, you may be surprised and re-evaluate what makes you happy. Wish you all the best in your recovery and studies :-)
I guess, and know that I must get back basics with the 12 steps. I just recently joined a gym to release some stress, and this will take some time. I will evaluate what makes me happy. This is a new day, and I am encouraged to reset my thinking.
Thanks to all.
I find great strength in a group of friends I have in my meetings. Keep up the good progress, find another person to help out and pass it on. You will feel better in being a help to another

Have you tried aroma therapy? A couple drops of lavender in my humidifier has helped me as well.
