Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.
I got sober while my family drank and still does. Two weeks after my first AA meeting I went on a bday weekend with my best girlfriends --- who are all big drinkers. I didnt drink. In hindsight I know that was a small miracle in my life. It was also made possible through Alcoholic Anonymous -- the support and the program I began to lean on even early on.
I too didnt think I could have "fun" sober but I knew I was miserable as a drunk. The reality of that was one of the things that kept me sober.
You can do it. Get a plan, build a support system. It can't be your family nor should your sobriety be contingent on anyone or anything else.
There is not a lot that I can add to the good advice that you have been given already, except for one thing: I tried my damnedest to stop drinking and couldnt do it. When all hope was lost I went to an AA meeting and have not had a drink since that day.
