Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.
Taradactyl
Dec 5 is my new sobriety date.
Everyone has different opinions about this. In my opinion, I compromised my sobriety. Not debatable.
I had knee surgery Dec 1. I did ALMOST everything I could to avoid abusing the pain pills. I couldn't stay honest with myself or others about how much pain I had so I just took max prescribed dosage. No big deal. I maintained a half high for 3 days. Then hubby decided to give me 6 pills for the third night so he wouldn't have to wake up to dole them out every 4 hours. I took them all inside of a few hours with the conscious intent of getting high.
I woke up Dec 4 and flushed the remaining pills then canceled my Rx. I told my sponsor and a few other people. I decided that I couldn't handle showing up to get a start over token and was close to saying fuck it and drinking, so I put it off. I have not taken a drink in 67 days.
I will be getting a start over token this weekend or may just wait for my 30 days Jan 5.
Just wanted to share. I feel better with it out in the open. Thanks.

I invited Bill to have dinner with me last Sunday. He wasn't willing to drive 7 hours to mid Michigan and teased me with his beautiful ribs!!! So, of course I ate alone and had cedar salmonĀ

enjoy your holidays.
Much respect to you friend.
I hope your knee surgery went well!!!
Hydro's are an epidemic and will really twist ya up.
Way to get honest.
Aleve works wonders,,IMO.
It was very scary for me when I had my first knee surgery at about three and half years sober....the second one was not as scary..the third one well I got thru it...then came the fourth one and now the result is that I need new knees on both sides...that is completely scary...for that they give you time in hospital and morphine pump with a self medicating button on timer you push when you need it again....that is blowing my mind! I never want another surgery on my knees but to stop this constant pain I take pills which just yesterday morning lead to overdose of the wrong med for me....my anti depressant...see other thread...
I pray your recovery has already begun again and that you will never need any further scope surgery or need any other surgery for anything....
hugs bill
I knew better than to even try taking meds that would get me high. I told the Drs I was recovering addict/alkie and requested a nerve block but they talked me out of it. It was the pain immediately following the surgery that nabbed me, and the funny thing was they kept pumping me with morphine and it was making no difference at all. The pills finally put me to sleep after about 30 mins. That was really all it took for my addict brain to kick in. I was buzzing them every 4 hours on the dot for the max dosage. I tried to keep myself there but just "caved" at the first opportunity to take more.
It was a learning experience. I never had a real pain pill problem before but I know I get quickly addicted and have the more more more mentality with anything mind altering.
Thanks all.
Bill, could you discuss the morphine issue with the docs and rearrange it as a PRN oral dose? That would mean there is a break between the thinking and the acting, which is always a help to we addicts.
Proud of you for recognizing what could've been - you didn't let it happen and that's the real exciting thing in this post.
Hoping you are feeling better soon.
Hugs, peace, lots of love and many blessings.
