Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.
Anna when I made the decision to stop, it needed to be a full commitment. This meant making sobriety the no.1 priority in my life. Without that, there was/is no life, and it meant making an action plan. Setting boundaries and making rules and sticking to them. No it wasn't easy. It was downright painful and tiring and I fought with myself daily. But I wanted sobriety so bad I was going to do absolutely everything necessary to get and stay sober. That was my commitment.
NO, It's not funny Anna. A token can remind you of your commitment and people can support you, but ultimately, you are responsible for the path you choose. I pray you find the courage and the want inside of you that will get you moving towards a better life.
Just look at one day at a time of no drinking - change your routine, change your mind and take the "tokens and chips" .
Sobriety should be it's own reward. Some people enjoy the chips and tokens as a sign of accomplishment and some need it and then others tend to loose what they are looking for, which is sobriety and they get wrapped up in tokens, chips, etc and get a little unfocused on their personal sobriety - they are just trying to live by a token or chip.
I am not an AAer - i do support my friends who are in AA but sometimes when I hear people like yourself, it reminds me that there are other ways to sobriety and not just AA -
I do hope that AA finds it's way in working for you -
The most important thing is to not drink - and let the body begin it's detox and withdrawal process and be working on your mind and spirit.
Peace!
Keep your sense of humor, htl, you're gonna need it. HAR!
