A man in a hot air balloon realized that he was lost. He reduced altitude and spotted another man below. He descended a bit more and shouted, "Excuse me, can you help me? I promised a friend I would meet him an hour ago, but I dont know where I am." The man below replied, "Youre in a hot air ball hovering approximately 30 feet above the ground. Youre between 40 and 41 degrees north latitude and between 59 and 60 degrees west longitude." "You must be a sponsor," said the balloonist. "I am," replied the man, "how did you know?" "Well," answered the balloonists, "everything you told me is, technically correct, but Ive no idea what to make of your information, and the fact is Im still lost. Frankly, youve not been much help at all. If anything, youve delayed my trip." The man below responded, "You must be a sponsee" "I am,: replied the balloonist, "but how did you know?" "Well," said the man, "you dont know where you are or where youre going. You have risen to where you are due to a large quantity of hot air. You made a promise, which youve no idea how to keep, and you expect other people to solve your problems. The fact is you are in exactly the same position you were in before we met, but now, somehow, its my fault."

Thank you for the link, it was very helpful and informative. What I'm noticing in my meetings though, is that there are very few women available and the ones I've asked so far already have too many sponsees to take on any more. The other women all seem to be just a little bit ahead of me in sobriety (I reached 30 days today).
I will continue to attend meetings and hope for the best! Thanks again for your post!
30 Days congratulations .it may be time to look for a sponsor that can spend sometime with you .It's good to see you looking at the first 164 pages that is the basic text.The stories in the back will help but you can listen to those when others share at the meetings.keep reading and looking and the right person will come along.I remember how it was for me early.If I can help in the time being with any questions you have on the first 164 pages please pm me.

Nana,it looks like it would be best to go sponsor shopping again. We can only give away what we got and it doesn't sound your sponsor has much to give. Congrats on 30 days!
I am 11 years sober and I have had a lot of sponsors, partially because I am also mentally ill so that complicates things in all different types of ways, both for me and my sponsors. I live in a town where AA is so small that I am currently sponsor-less, but I am moving to a bigger town where there are many more meetings and many more active members - so I am excited at the prospect of finding a new sponsor. It truely is a wonderous thing - the sponsor - sponsee relationship - even if it working only to some extent - nothing's perfect. But I wish you the best in your search.
