Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.
Hello there everyone,
I am seeking some advice from you all. I am the wife of an Alcoholic. I have been now for seven years. Since the pandemic started, more and more beer has come into the house. Now my husband drinks every other day. I blame myself for boundaries I didn't put in early on.. I have been thinking about separation for at least two years on and off again. I am tired of hurting, resenting, and quite frankly being disgusted by his actions. For those of you and your spouses who have stayed married what does it take? How did both of you work through things? Counseling? Or was it firm boundaries from your spouse and yourself? I am trying to understand what else there is to do. I see it as unless he is willing to admit he is an alcoholic nothing can resolve itself.

check out that smoke ring. It tasted really good. I smothered it with Maulls BBQ sauce which is Local to St. Louis and one of the best I ever had.....

I was recently separated from my wife of 33 years and it's complicated. Anyway I rented a room about 15 minutes away and I see my kids about once a week. I see the people who own the house I live in once in a while but other than that I stay in my room where I do my cooking, wash dishes in the shower, read, color, and sleep. I get out at least once a day. I grocery shop and I attend 2 meetings...

The thought of being alone after 24 years of marriage, got through the clouds in my mind so I drove down to the ER and was placed in detox. That was the day my recovery began. After 4 days in detox, I went into an IOP (Intensive Outpatient Program) for 3 weeks which was followed by 3 months of more counseling. Throughout all the treatment I had, regular attendance at AA meetings were a requirement.
Although we are divorced now, we remain good friends and talk often. I'm not suggesting you should leave your husband..... but am saying that's what worked in my case. That was 12 years ago. Now I have a great life and have never been happier!
You see what the alcohol is doing to your husband but look at what his drinking is doing to YOU!.
You need alot of support for yourself and Alanon is a great place to find that support!

In the meantime, we will keep you in our thoughts and prayers.

As for you I would suggest you look into AlAnon. They are a recovery group for family members of alcoholics. Their members can be a great support group and help you realize you aren't alone in your struggle.
Best of luck to you in whatever decision you make. It is never easy.
You can also contact your nearest hospital and ask for the Alcohol and substance abuse program, and ask to be evaluated... Every major hospital has one!
IOP IS outpatient. 4 hours in the evening, 5 pm to 9 pm which allowed me to work at my day job. It might be slightly different where you live.
It was a 3 week program that helped me tremendously. The way it helps is by identifying the underlying problems which trigger the addiction and heals them. I remember my counselor telling me that without some kind of help, your chances of staying sober on willpower alone, are less the 1%.......
Good luck to you and I hope it all works out. If you have anymore questions, we are here to help you.
God Bless
