Sober vacation!

Planned my first sober vacation last night and I am so excited! Going to the Florida Keyes in May! I would normally stay in Key West, a big party town, and spend most of my vacation drunk or recovering from a hangover. This year I have booked a house in a more remote and serene area. The house comes with bicycles and kayaks!!! I am so looking forward to a healthy, restful, sober vacation! Feels odd....but good!! Pretty sure I won't miss the drinks and I KNOW I won't miss the hangovers :-)!!!

That sounds wonderful LN! Great choice away from the bars, you can really chill out. I love my sober holidays, I see and appreciate everything instead of staggering about with diminished senses. Ha ha, another bonus is having happy memories to cherish!

You are going to have a blast!

In the past, we always vacation at all inclusive resorts. I've been to some great places that I don't remember all that well. I too am looking forward to a vacation I can remember!

Wow! Nice warm water to go Kayaking in swimming. I had a sober vacation at Ha Long Bay. We kayaked around the islands. An Aussie that I met told me that he came to Ha Long after visiting Bangkok, where he got so drunk that he woke up in a transvestite's home. He doesn't know if he was raped and he worried about AIDS. I did not miss the drinking. Another Aussie had to wire home for money. He lost his wallet at a bar. He thinks that it happened when he kicked down the restroom door.
That's the kind of excitement that I don't need. I instead had the best vacation ever.

Sounds like a ball. I love the keys. Spend many days there. Usully drinking too.. I would love to go back and maintain sober. What fun.

I'm on my first one right now. In Tempe AZ, it's strange, staying busy hiking and tother activities. As strange as it is, I like it and spending sober time with my family.

Good for you. I don't even think about vacations now as sober vacations. They are vacations and I love every minute of them. One big treat is trying new AA meetings when I'm in new towns. I've now done this all over southern CA, Hawaii, Costa Rica, Texas, Canada and lots of points in between.
We alcoholics are so much the same no matter when I've been so far, and thankfully so is the solution:-)
