Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.
Let's not beat each other up over it. Let's instead encourage each other to get back on the old wagon.
I hear people tell of their years-long sobriety...and I keep praying I will get there too. They all say they did it one day at a time.
Chapter 3, line 6 og the BB=
The idea that somehow, someday he will control and enjoy his drinking is the great obsession of every abnormal drinker.. (a few sentences later)The delusion
that we are like other people must be smashed.
There are alot of proven suggestions in this program, it's up to you to supply the action.
As the desciples returned from a missionary journey, they were elated with their success. They gave glowing report of how God had worked. jesus was gled to hear their accounts, but he knew that thay needed physical rest after their arduous journey. He invited them to come and rest with him in a quiet place.
We too need to refresh ourselves to maintain physical and spirual strength. Our schuedules are demanding. They drain our physical, mental, emotional and spiritual life.
God holy spirit gives us strengh for his schedule for us . I belive God plans for us to include times of rest and relaxation in our schedule. If the desciples needed rest, so do we.
Our rest times may consist of a vacation where we can rest and relax a change of environment or simply a respite right where we are.
Time spent with the lord brings renewal and refreshment.
GNR is right, the means are set at our feet thru AA but we must be the ones to apply the action. I'm still struggling with applying actino but I'm sober today. God be with you and donlt pick up that irsft drink, make a call, thru a line out here at DS and wait for a response. BEst of luck.
Alcoholics have lost the power of choice in drink.
Maybe you drank because you are suffering from untreated alcoholism and therefore it is inevitable that at some point you would drink?
I see that you have had some periods of control recently - it says this in the big book:
"All of us felt at times that we were regaining control, but such intervals - usually brief - were inevitably followed by still less control, which lead in time to pitiful and incomprehensible demoralization. We are convinced to a man that alcoholics of our type are in the grip of a progressive illness. Over any considerable period we get worse, never better." pg30
If this is you, please dont let it get worse before you seek help.

Did you say you are going to AA or not? I forget. If you are finding problems beating this thing alone then it is worth a go. Some alcoholics manage to quit on their own, others don't. For some the problem gets worse, for others it doesn't but it still remains a big problem regardless. I know some people will disagree with my views but as yet my brain hasn't been replaced with the Big Book script ;-)
Try a cognitive behavior approach as well - that too is worth a shot. Try doing something else when you stop on your cleaning break - like dancing or shadow boxing I dunno! Or have a sugary fizzy drink and a cake then immediately get back to work. Or write in your journal.
you can do it one way or another as there is all sorts of help and approaches you can arm yourself with. X
