Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.

Hi! New to the group. 60 days without alcohol after a relapse after 4 years sober. Got a sponsor in AA yesterday and will begin to work the steps. Question is, I believe I am also insomniac. Does anyone think that taking over the counter sleeping pills would be safe to take if taken as directed. Have tried every “natural” method and nothing seems to be working. Would appreciate any response to this thank You

check out that smoke ring. It tasted really good. I smothered it with Maulls BBQ sauce which is Local to St. Louis and one of the best I ever had.....

I was recently separated from my wife of 33 years and it's complicated. Anyway I rented a room about 15 minutes away and I see my kids about once a week. I see the people who own the house I live in once in a while but other than that I stay in my room where I do my cooking, wash dishes in the shower, read, color, and sleep. I get out at least once a day. I grocery shop and I attend 2 meetings...

What is Melatonin?
Melatonin is a natural hormone made by your body's pineal (pih-knee-uhl) gland. This is a pea-sized gland located just above the middle of the brain. During the day the pineal is inactive. When the sun goes down and darkness occurs, the pineal is "turned on" by the SCN and begins to actively produce melatonin, which is released into the blood. Usually, this occurs around 9 pm. As a result, melatonin levels in the blood rise sharply and you begin to feel less alert. Sleep becomes more inviting. Melatonin levels in the blood stay elevated for about 12 hours - all through the night - before the light of a new day when they fall back to low daytime levels by about 9 am. Daytime levels of melatonin are barely detectable.

After I quit the booze after about 3 months my body sort of got itself back into a normal cycle and sleep began to be much more normal.
I have found that I sleep better if I have been productive that day and more happy with myself.

You sound like you are on the right path, sometimes at first you may take something but after awhile the body becomes regular and sleep is good.
Welcome.
Making my intention known before I go to bed also helps. I just tell my guardian angel or God or whoever is listening that I want a good nights sleep and that usually works. I rarely forget to say thankyou when I awake from a good nights sleep. So being grateful also helps.
This is what helped me but you may have to tweek it to fit your needs as we are all different. It's not really one size fits all so good luck and let us know what worked for you because it night help someone else!
God Bless
