Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.

I just had sex for the first time since getting sober. It was a great experience but also really nerve racking, stressful, and awkward. I'm a guy and I don't ever remember becoming so emotional and needy after getting laid. Before I'd just crack a beer, smoke one, or if I was drunk maybe ramble about feelings or something stupid. This time was different though I was legitimately feeling very insecure and needy. I felt like a woman, I wanted to cuddle after. Then the girl had to leave and I kind of felt like my feelings got hurt. Luckily I'm more self aware now so I was able to keep myself at bay until she left and not say anything that might compromise our relationship. But today I'm a mental mess! I should be pumped and happy and proud of myself for making such strides but my mind is all over the place in anxiety and over analyzing everything I did. Plus after the act I had a horrible trigger to go to the fridge and grab a beer, but that's not me anymore. I almost got like depressed afterwards because normally I'd celebrate with a beer and I don't do that these days.
Does anyone else notice changes like this? Maybe it's because it's been a while since I've dated or the fact that I'm sober now, most likely both. The thing is it was very real, very serious, and very emotional. It wasn't the light fun sex I remember, it was bring up all my personal issues at once shake the foundation of the relationship sex. Am I alone here?

I invited Bill to have dinner with me last Sunday. He wasn't willing to drive 7 hours to mid Michigan and teased me with his beautiful ribs!!! So, of course I ate alone and had cedar salmonĀ

You are ready for an intimate relationship with the right person. Intimacy is what you want and there is nothing wrong with that. You will discover that intimate sex is better than anything that you previously experienced.
Don' worry. Be Happy.
Being aware of my newfound sensitivity, actually helped me enjoy things better....kinda like a butterfly breaking free of the cocoon and flying free, for the first time. It was exilerating, to say the least!
Being able to feel both good and bad things is what helps me to grow emotionally!
God Bless
The thing is alcohol was my go to in every situation. Feel bad. Drink. Feel good. Drink. It was like the filter that made me not FEEL so
Very normal. Just don't get too wrapped up about it. Talk to another alcoholic about it. Things smooth out
