Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.
However the good news is that you dont have to wait for next time round to be blessed with humility. It is possible to do have it, or at least progress towards it right here, right now. I know this because I have done it and seen others do it too.
Inventory, amends, being willing to be relieved of character defects and living by spiritual principles all move us away from selfishness and towards humility.
The most important thing to do at this point is say, so what are you doing about it? Are uou sober? Are you doing everything possible to get sober and stay sober?
If you aren't (and please tell me if you are), you will be on this endless rat wheel going over and over cycles of denial and then the self centredness you spoke about, and then extreme guilt and remorce and your own personal character assassination.
Only you can decide when to get off. And there is a solution to those problems.
I don't think the right message is to think less of yourself, like self-loathing. I really believe we can have a heathy self-awareness and still remain humble. I think the key is try and think of everyone as equals, including yourself.
I guess I am trying to say that we DO NOT honor others by lowering ourselves. I really believe it is in mutual respect of self and others. IOW, NOONE is any more important that you, NOR are they any less important than you.
Don't know if this makes sense,
