Have any of you had seizures and if so how often? My husband has about 2 seizures a year and he acts like they are no big deal. I know the risk of those episodes but I cant seem to get him to understand that they are no joking matter. So Im curious from an alcoholic perspective, do any of you suffer or have suffered from the same view as my husband. FYI, he has had those seizures when he attempts to stop drinking from a binge. He gets so worked up with anxiety and vomitting that a seizure happens.

I would imagine its withdrawals. My brother had one 5 years ago and fell and the trauma helped to create a gramma seizure and his organs shut down. Specifically his damaged liver which never recovered in spite of not drinking . We lost him in January the year before last.. Its a very serious symptom of maybe a more serious problem. Not drinking and medical care is a MuSt ...as the consequences could be irreversible as my brother Sid found out:(((

Echo that..."Seizures" and "Epilepsy" sometimes become a euphemism between Drs and Alcoholics. My uncle died a few years ago after a heavy heavy binge, had had alcohol problems for years but did not want to discuss that with anyone.

His Drs often discussed with him that his "epilepsy" was getting worse.

Either way. ..seizures are a big deal and I would advice discussing them with a health professional...whatever the cause.

sounds like you could use the help of Alanon Family Groups....we are just the same as your husband but most of us have stopped drinking...Alanon family groups includes some of us and many of the wives of us and husbands of us....and even children of us....so check into their meetings in your yellow pages....hugs bill

As others have said, alcoholic seizures are dangerous and people can die from them. I hope he seeks medical help next time. Some alcoholics are very sensitive about their doctors knowing their problem but most doctors are aware of what might be going on before it is discussed. Life before pride or any other emotion is a choice many have to make.
