A good place to be here, lots of friendly peeps and advice and experience through their own journey. Sorry about your divorce must be a factor in drinking to numb your emotions. May seem like it works short term, but long term will just lead to increased depression and anxiety. Get on here a lot, has keep me off the drink for a few weeks, good to talk and get stuff off your chest. A problem shared IS really a problem halfed, cheesy I know but true ;) When my lot were at school and I was off work through being made redundant found it easy just to drink more and more and earlier and earlier, was all day for me. I was right in the same spot in june of last yr. I thought that alcohol was the only "friend" I had left. Well that friend almost killed me. I discovered sobriety on june 10, 2013. I will admit that it was tough in the beginning, but now I feel so relieved to be rid of that "monkey on my back" I cannot even express my hapiness. You can do it.

Oo most importantly well done on 5 days! really is great! First 3-5 for me were worst, anxious, irritable, couldn't sleep, ride the storm it WILL start to get better (from now), believe me was only there a few days ago, you'll kick yourself if you have a drink as you'll have to go through this horrid stage again, just your body getting rid of all the shite and wondering where it is!

Thank you all for the words of encouragement. Now if I can only stop crying and feeling so guilty... It's so difficult to face the harsh reality... Too be able to start over (marriage) would be a miracle...

5 days with all that's going on, that's a miracle! So glad you're here. We can support you but do you have sober friends in real life to support you or to call when the going gets rough?

A sober life is a life worth living. My marriage was healed (I made terrible choices when drinking), my dignity restored and true happiness every day.

I was granted wonderful things. A relationship with my family based on mutual respect, ability to be a true friend,not drinking buddy.

There are so many gifts that come with sobriety. I sobered up in AA 21yrs ago. I've never looked back. I'm not trying to sell AA. It sells itself. That's just how I recovered. I look forward to getting to know you! Hugs, Dianna

I know this is not an AA group but having face to face contact with someone who is also trying to stay sober does wonders.

AA meetings are excellent and would recommend them. I have such a great support net work since joining AA. You will meet people who are so supportive and will be there for you.

You sure have a lot on your plate. Good for you for not drinking for 5 days and continuing to work out.

Divorce is one of the hardest experiences we will ever have to go through and I'm sorry this is happening to you. You have said in your profile that AA did not work for you and at first I didn't think it worked for me either.

I tried to stay sober by myself - unfortunately that did not work for me. I met some of the kindest most helpful people I've ever known in AA. They helped me ride through the rough times when I was drowning - and I did stay sober. I now have several years of sobriety - mainly because I sat in those meetings and listened.

You can do this and you will feel better - that's what meetings are all about. Good luck and take care.

5 days is huge - congratulations. I went through a divorce, moved to another state, found a marvelous job, joined a ski club that has activities year round, and learned to absolutely love being free to make new choices. I went to a therapist once a week - that was the best thing to get my head straight!

Your children need to see you happy and peaceful - keep up the great work and let us hear from you.

Sounds like a good start to me! Just know you are not alone.. I mean look at this website. We are in it to win it! What game show is that from? Lol.. I don't even know. Point is we have something in common so stay with us. Also a little down time from the world is okay. I have learned I need it to some degree! Sometimes you do need a break from life..but a healthy one! Relax, today is only one day. If tomorrow leads to something else so be it but today I will not drink to cope! Huggles! Thirsty
