Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.

I'm having a hard day, I'm really depressed today. There are alot of things going on in my mind. My parents are in their mid 70's, my dad has dementia, I can see him fading away. My mom is OK for now. I'm already depressed, I just realized yesterday how close he is to completely losing it. I see them every day, I'm disabled, so I try to spend my time there while I still have the opportunity. I came home when they went down for naps. It is very hard to watch them fade away. I would normally have been drunk by now and it has crossed my mind, but I won't! I managed to make my errands without stopping at THE store, it was a monumental task! Only 2 and a half hours to bed time! My best part of the day lately! I hope tomorrow is a better day, depression is kicking my ass! Sly

check out that smoke ring. It tasted really good. I smothered it with Maulls BBQ sauce which is Local to St. Louis and one of the best I ever had.....

I was recently separated from my wife of 33 years and it's complicated. Anyway I rented a room about 15 minutes away and I see my kids about once a week. I see the people who own the house I live in once in a while but other than that I stay in my room where I do my cooking, wash dishes in the shower, read, color, and sleep. I get out at least once a day. I grocery shop and I attend 2 meetings...

You cannot help anybody while drunk. If anything a burden. They say AA is a selfish program. Why? because you have to take care of yourself FIRST. If you don't, you won't be able to take care of anybody else.
So, be willing to go to any lengths to not have that first drink. It's not easy. If it was, everybody would be doing it. Plaese don't use prayer as your last resort. It works better if you start early in the morning ;-)
Drinking was my way of coping with the massive changes to my life and our family life when I became the carer. I felt resentment because we are both young(ish) our lives were turned upside down and things that we would normally do on the spur of the moment became a military mission, planned with contingency plans in place.
I became depressed, anxious and self sabotaged by drinking to blackout to stop feeling the emotions which left me feeling guilty.
What drink didn’t do was change anything, I woke feeling the same emotions and feelings BUT more depressed and anxious and this went on for months until I finally saw what my behaviour was doing to my daughter - my actions were upsetting her more than facing the fear of her father’s illness.
You need to be strong, focused and well to help your parents BUT you also need to find time for YOU! Whether that’s simply reading a book or doing something else that you enjoy. Whilst you look after your parents, who looks after you? Where do you get support from??? Don’t let it be the booze because believe me it changes nothing x
