Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.

Well, it finally happened last night. I was called out by my wife and 14yo daughter for drinking. I had a good week at the end of February but started to sneak drink again due to the old triggers that make me feel sorry for myself, low self-esteem, hard day at work, fighting with the wife about everything for what to have for dinner to she sacrifices everything for my daughter and I. so they confront me and it hit me, this is my rock bottom.
My health is suffering, my family, friends, co-workers or anyone else I come in contact with suffer by seeing me that way and Im ashamed of what I have become.
So today, I have told my Mom I have a problem, told my wife and daughter and they have agreed to help in any way they can. I have an appointment with a counselor and have asked my wife to make a Drs appointment for bloodwork and checkup and am looking for a support group near me. I am afraid what the doctor is going to say, scared of going to a group and hoping I have the strength to stay sober.
Today is the beginning of day two, wish me luck..

check out that smoke ring. It tasted really good. I smothered it with Maulls BBQ sauce which is Local to St. Louis and one of the best I ever had.....

I was recently separated from my wife of 33 years and it's complicated. Anyway I rented a room about 15 minutes away and I see my kids about once a week. I see the people who own the house I live in once in a while but other than that I stay in my room where I do my cooking, wash dishes in the shower, read, color, and sleep. I get out at least once a day. I grocery shop and I attend 2 meetings...

The luckiest people are the ones who make their own luck and you have taken an important first step in doing that.
You have recognised that you have a problem and that is a good starting point. Do not be ashamed of what you have become as you are probably suffering from an illness. Instead take responsibility for what you can do today and hopefully there will be a better future.
You have lost control over drinking and may need to rely on help from various places and that is something that causes fear and uncertainty. However, there is hope and there is a bright future ahead if you are willing to do what it takes.
Sometimes it is not strength that you need to stay sober but an admission that you cannot do it on your own and need help.
Go luck in your amazing adventure.
I have a doctors appointment on the 2nd of April and I have a counselor right down the road from me my insurance will cover to see a couple times a week for a month or so then every week and eventually every two weeks, least that is the plan for now.
PJ,
I always thought I had bad luck only but you are right, I CAN make my own luck. I think I lost that feeling when the drinking became the one thing I thought I could control and make me feel like I was happy but looking back now in the first few days of sobriety I realize it was part of the problem.
Im,
You are right, some of my best times in life are when Im sober. We go to Orlando in November at least every year for about 10 days. The only place that really serves alcohol in Disney is Epcot and we only go for one day and since kid and I ride all the rides last thing I want to do is drink and ride Mission to Mars and Test Track!
I know the best is yet to come!
We are all afraid of the unknown but I really believe that after the first day, you will be glad you went there. The worse things about drinking is not just what it does for the drunk, but what it does to the rest of the family. My dad was an alcoholic and it was a constant nightmare wondering if he was going to live or die. Believe me, if only for the sake of your kids, you made the right decision!
Getting your doctor on board with your recovery was the most important step so far. Give sobriety a chance, give it some time, and you will have a life happier then you ever thought possible!
God Bless!
How long have you gone without a drink now?
I'm working on some triggers now and i know what to look for. Finding a group is more of location and time, I open up around others well but with some family members they go straight to judgement and that's not what i need right now.
And the Doctor visit is my unknow right now. I lust hope I have'nt damaged myself beyond repair. I still have a lot I want to get done in this life and staying sober is #1 on my list.
talk later.

today is day only day three but pain has been going on for a few weeks. Started with mild stomach pain but it deminishing and I had lower back pain from trying to get comfortable in bed. Research is telling me could be gallbladder issue (blockage) and just some general aches and pains.
As far as detox I do notice a little shake sometimes, it's like low blood sugar type shake. I only really noticed it last night when i had to change out the batteries in an Easter decoration that had screw in the cover i had to take out and replace.
