"Ones-own self is well hidden from one"s own self" a renowned philosopher once wrote. " Of all the mines of treasure , one's own is the last to be dug up." The twelve steps have enabled me to unearth my "own self, the one that for so long was buried beneath my desperate for approval from others. Thanks to The program and my H/P, I've begun acquiring a true sense of self and a comfortable sense of confidence. No longer do I have to react chameleon like , changing my coloration from one moment to the next. fruitlessly trying to be all things to all people. Do I strive at times , to be true to myself?

I think that most of us are still in a deep fog Billy. We fool ourselves thinking we know ourselves, and at the pinnacle of knowing ourselves, we see we know nothing. It is all an illusion-smoke and mirrors. Very few people on this earth really know themselves. We get momentary glimpses I think, if we are on the right path, and these are magical.

Just trying to head in the right direction. GOod going.

I like that... "Just trying to head in the right direction." Yes it must be all we really can do.... If it is truth that this recovery is a journey, not a specific destination......... is head in the right direction. I think the book says, "....for you willescape disaster together and you will commence shoulder to shoulder your common journey." and, "We shall be with you in the fellowship of the Spirit, and you will surely meet some of us as you trudge the Road of Happy Destiny."
it describes a Journey on a Road of Happy Destiny.
Even though it uses the word destiny it does not say it is a final destination. I believe this is why many members express the sober journey as being the destination itself.
Always open to an infinate number of interpretations, thank The Grace Of God!!!!!!!!!!
I watched an awesome man (Woody) celebrate his 44th year of sober recovery this evening. What an incredible experience to listen to him talk about his first introduction to Alcoholics Anonymous when I was just the age of 4 yrs old, and experiencing my first taste of home brewed beer on my daddy's knees!!!!!

His sharing so simple, short and clear......
" Read The Doctors Opinion."
" I did 'it' by showing up, not drinking, working the Steps, and then living the principles I learned by working the steps."
" I did 'it' by giving away what was so freely given to me and continuing to so on a daily basis all these years."
" I did 'it' by finding a Power greater than myself, during the process of finding the truth about myself, both contained in the working of the Steps."
" I did 'it' by relying upon that Power, in an intimate manner, receiving daily, by Grace, a reprieve from a seemingly hopeless state of mind and body."

All I could do was listen and be in awe of the Power of the Program with one member celebrating 6 months and one with 44 yrs. Both headed in the right direction together and successful in their endeavor.

And.... in gratefulness by the Grace of God, there go I, ( WE.)
