Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.

I joined the group. I got the first step toward a referral to a substance abuse group. I'm realizing it, I'm not liking it. And I'm scared. I don't even know if I want to go to a meeting anymore. It's so much out of me. What will be left behind?

check out that smoke ring. It tasted really good. I smothered it with Maulls BBQ sauce which is Local to St. Louis and one of the best I ever had.....

I was recently separated from my wife of 33 years and it's complicated. Anyway I rented a room about 15 minutes away and I see my kids about once a week. I see the people who own the house I live in once in a while but other than that I stay in my room where I do my cooking, wash dishes in the shower, read, color, and sleep. I get out at least once a day. I grocery shop and I attend 2 meetings...

But low and behold once I got into a program of recovery there was so much more of "me" and more importantly of a connection, of life, of my family, friends, etc. Now I can't even believe I waited this long to start living a life.
For me, I didn't know how I would live without alcohol on a daily basis. It made me fearless but created more fear... calmed my nerves then caused panic attacks. I had to continually drink just to feel sane. It got progressively worse.
It will be the single best thing you could do for yourself. Anything is possible once we put the drink down. Enjoy your meeting and go with an open mind.
But in recovery I faced my fears with the support of those who have been in my shoes and that was my key to happiness. Face my fears and stop punishing myself.
God Bless!
There are parts of us that should be left behind - the part of you that you find while sober, as you go forward, is definitely preferable to being drunk.
Nobody likes recovery at first, it is scary and change, especially major change, is always uncomfortable. I'm not sure what sort of group you are going to but something helpful to bear in mind for 12 Step work is honesty, open-mindedness and willingness.
Work hard at it to get the best results and let us know how you get on.
