Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.
write it on your hand, put it on the dash of your car, anything besides obsess about the next drink
I tried everything I could to stop doing it, every bit of determination and will power and desire not to drink that I had, and I still did it.
One day i had a realisation that it was never going to be any different, that i was never going to be able to keep those promises. That the belief that I had that this time it will be different was always false.
That felt like a terrible place to be as I felt truly helpless and hopeless.
However it turned out to be a good place for me to get to because it made me truly desperate for a way out and i set out with a willingness to find it that i had never had whilst I still believed i could change things on my own.
I found the solution that worked for me in AA where I met many people who had once felt as desperate and hopeless as I did but were now living lives happily without alcohol and could show me how to do this too.
I did what they had done and I havent wanted or needed a drink for 6 years now.
If you want things to change for you and are willing to take some action to bring that about then there is a solution for you too.
If you can somehow think ahead to make sure you can't buy when you leave for work, like don't take any money or credit cards, pack your lunch etc. You won't be able to buy when your resolve is weakest. Once you string a couple days together it may get easier, it did for me. And that first morning you keep the promise you will feel SO proud. Just keep at it my friend.
The thought of my wife leaving me and taking my kids away hasn't even deterred me. I hope I don't have to hit rock bottom to find a way out.
