Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. One of the most liberating things that I have gained from the Twelve Step programme of recovery is the ability to let go of the constant need to do everything perfectly. This has allowed me to try doing things that I would never have done before because of a fear of not getting it right or an obsession for doing a good job every time.
Life is not perfect and the perfect human being has not been born yet. Likewise, the voyage to sobriety is not about perfectionism but rather about making progress. I am not big on slogans because although many people find them helpful they can also give a false message. An AA slogan says Easy Does It and sometimes people take that to mean that no work is required in order to achieve sobriety. I prefer the slogan that says Easy Does it but Do It.
