Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.
When I am around people who drink, and they assume I don't drink because I am a square, or someone who thinks it is "morally incorrect", it can become a huge cause of any resentment I have or end up having towards them. This goes back to the "world of ignorance" the big book of Alcoholics Anonymous speaks of. The fact is I will drink those people under the table, in a perfect world.
The people aren't the real issue though, and the more a person grows in sobriety, the easier it is to write people who are ignorant off. If I have a general attitude with God that I know he is the protector of everyone, and I am not purposefully trying to hurt others, writing others off is really no big deal, for me. I guess you can say it is inconsiderate, but, what?, does it make sense for me to stop everything I am doing on a daily basis when I encounter an ignorant person, per understanding of alcoholism, and explain to them that I do not drink because I have a two fold illness that I did not have any role really in becoming a significant part of my life from the beginning? No, I don't have time for that stuff, honestly, so it's not about the ignorance, or the people, it's all about the resentment and bad feeling I get from them, and not drinking over that.
This idea that God doesn't want man to have bad feelings over his other creations making that same man, ill, feelings wise, due to their own imperfections, they are too ignorant to recognize, possibly, or two stupid to realize, retaliation and revenge are as real as water is wet, is helpful when trying to abstain from a life that is dependent on alcohol to produce some small portions of happiness, outside of a greater misery that includes other's "stuff" burdening a path to happiness.
I've found that focusing on negative feelings constructed by others actions, can really propel another towards going for that whiskey and really committing to an attitude of "screw it, who cares anyway." The problem with that, if you are actually alcoholic though is, the craving the Doctor's Opinion talks about will in fact, begin if you take the first drink, and then the obsession to have more, will then start to dance around among the negative feelings, and thoughts of others, so it's not so much about the people, and what they are doing, because without a question it is not good what they are doing, but it will get worse, if you drink over their "stuff."
AA, says if someone is doing something you don't like it is your problem. I really don't think that is accurate enough to have the amount of self-esteem one would need to be a success in society, honesty, so I really don't put much faith in that whole approach to a theory of if I am hit with a bat, it was my fault, lol. That totally neglects the fact that someone else decided to use their own thought process to use the bat to hurt another, and it is confusing to preach to the sick that if someone and their "stuff" hurt another, it is the person who was hurts, fault.
I do think, if someone hurts me, knowingly or unknowingly, it is my job, to push that hurt to the side as quickly as possible so I can respond in the most powerful way possible. I am not sure me thinking I am the problem all the time is the best way to conjure up my own powers, so I can have the most self-esteem possible, when having to deal with others, who just aren't there yet.
Regardless of my opinion of how AA does their "stuff", I still agree that resentment, or negative feelings, God does not want us to be experiencing more so than happiness and joy.
AA says that we have these basic instincts of reproducing, wanting an important role in society, and to be secure financially, emotionally, and in our relationships. That society within the world society says that through alcoholism, the alcoholics instincts have been warped, or misguided, in where a desire for selfishness inside the instincts just mentioned, takes precedent over all other ways of doing business, which if one is of sound mind, is probably just as simple as, precendence over unselfishness.
I can relate to being drunk when the occasion doesn't call for it, and trying to configure within my mind how that could, to some, be seen as selfish, but that is only how far I can take that concept. As far as a general policy towards others though, outside of my alcoholism, I really struggle with this idea, which ironically is self-sacrificing if looked at directly, of, if other drinkers aren't in their right mind, and they are doing (for lack of a better term) "sinful" things to me, I am the problem. How am I the problem if you are doing the problematic things? How am I the problem if I possibly have the solution to your problematic things outside of your own ignorance? How are you not the problem if I have to tell you that you are the ignorant one possibly?
Yes, so I really have a hard time connecting the dots right there, I mean, if I can tell others are the ones' messed up, making all the problems, and they think they are winning, and creating solutions, but they are really just creating negativity in others with that negativity knowing it can really and actually will respond in a way that makes an ignorant person know and others equally know also, again, how is that the person who knows before the others know, the problem?
I've got to be careful not to drink over some of the things AA swears are the ways to not drink, but if you have really taken the time to understand AA, they clearly also say, they aren't the only way and they could be wrong in areas, because they are just human beings trying to help. Even their final step, the 12th step, says to their members, "...tried to carry this message" not "...absolutely carry this message", so it's important for me not to get a negative outlook of AA, when they might just not be good enough, in some areas, outside of alcoholism, in the world, to solve, which they honestly within their own security, admit, they might not be.
I personally have been encountering scores of individuals who want problems from my perspective, and my own instincts are telling me I can straight up just go up to them and punch them in the face, because they are that ignorant, but again, I've got to think of a greater society in where, I am not God, and God yet still has lots of work to do within others, and they might not know. If they want problems with other peoples they might not know that God is in everyone. With that being said, on the flip side, I've got to be honest and say, that others who still drink, and might not know God is in them too, and might become so much greater or better than anything I've ever seen, when they start tapping into their own inner "God", and God starts to really without question work in them, so it's difficult to manage on a daily basis if I analyze it and/or contemplate it too much, but I know one thing, God didn't have me born to be suffering from others BS when they can't stop drinking or imposing their "stuff" on others who know more than them possibly.
I also know that I don't have to forgive you or others for their "stuff." Let alone forgive me, for your "stuff." That's a God deal, and I am not God, and I'm not one of those people who try to act like God either, so my resentment will always need to be temporary, whether God removes it or not. I do know that it gets murky with AA when it comes to resentment and the cause of resentment. In the 10th step the society says to watch out for resentment along with dishonesty and fear, and selfishness, but in the 4th step the society says resentment is the product of selfishness, dishonesty, and fear, so equating it to a defect, but saying it is the product of defect earlier, can be in itself grounds for confusion. Frustration and confusion are two reasons drinkers choose to drink, alcoholic or not, so I have to find my own solution on this subject of feeling negative, and me blaming myself all the time, because it just doesn't work all the time.
If I wake up in the morning and request to God through prayer that I be a solution that day, it is still up to him, but if I am a problem for others, wouldn't a God, who doesn't find me to be a problem, want me to be the solution, to those who find me a problem? A God who doesn't find me to be a problem, wouldn't want me drinking whiskey over people who find me a problem, but the people who find me to be a problem because I don't drink, drinking whiskey with them, would be their solution, because they are probably just miserable sacks of shit, who have nothing better to do than fuck with others who are only solutions.
With that being said, can I tolerate another's misery, if they can't stop drinking? That question requires me to go deep into my own experience when it just wasn't quite my time to not drink yet. Some of my most trusted people's couldn't even tolerate me, and in fact, everyone had to bail on me, nobody could be around my misery, because it must have made them feel too negative. I too, was a miserable sack of shit, who had nothing better to do then fuck with others. That is just as important to remember as the fact that I don't have to take on the bullshit those who don't know yet, create, so it all boils down to more trust in God, more trust in doing things that don't attract negative feelings, and just accepting that life is life (and much better than death) and you play what you're given and don't complain about it. That is hard to do, but I've found it will produce more clarity than not, and also keep a person in touch with God. Or at least God's plan, if God really ain't down with what you're doing right now. Which in this case is drink all the time, when you don't want to.
