Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.
I have had long periods of sobriety. After much research I have come to the conclusion that I am a gray area drinker. My drinking pattern over the last year was typically 3-5 beers (IPA's) 3-5 days per week, at home alone in the evening. I would sometimes go a week or so without drinking. I also suffer from depression and the drinking just makes it 10 times worse. At present I am 30 days without any alcohol. While I feel better physically my depression seems to be up and down. I recently read This Naked Mind by Annie Grace and I found it very helpful for the quitting aspect. What I am hoping to find an answer to is how long before the depression improves? I have a lot on my plate caring for my mother (in resident memory care) who suffers from dimentia. Although she is in a facility, the care is subpar and I am constantly getting calls complaing about her. This in itself causes me incredible anxiety and depression. Can anyone help me understand when and if this anxiety/depression will lift? 2, 3, 4 months? I was really hopinig that I'd have some relief by now.

check out that smoke ring. It tasted really good. I smothered it with Maulls BBQ sauce which is Local to St. Louis and one of the best I ever had.....

I was recently separated from my wife of 33 years and it's complicated. Anyway I rented a room about 15 minutes away and I see my kids about once a week. I see the people who own the house I live in once in a while but other than that I stay in my room where I do my cooking, wash dishes in the shower, read, color, and sleep. I get out at least once a day. I grocery shop and I attend 2 meetings...

It’s been an intense journey since. Learning to look deep at my patterns of behavior and love myself anyway :)
What has kept me sober is realizing that I can create a healthier lifestyle one day at a time. I have joy in my heart more than I ever have. (28 months in)
I know that quitting was just the jumping off point to the real work. The work (path) of developing a healthy mind. Until we’re grounded in ourselves I think happiness will be elusive.
If I could have afforded (and found the right one) a therapist I would have gone. To get the ball rolling. At this point I feel settled enough in myself to continue working on my own.
I read a lot about mental/emotional health and practice walking meditation and yoga.
I was drinking more than you and I don’t have depression. I deal with shame, anxiety and low self esteem, all of which are healing in ways that I never thought possible.
Change your life. Do different things, walk or exercise often. Pure diet with plenty of water. Before you know it you will feel better.
I sent you a pm with some suggestions you asked for and I think they will help.
Good luck and keep in touch.
I can workout or I can drink.
Don't do things that will make you feel bad later.
depression is a normal response ,follows me like a shadow
