There is usually four people plus a team leader who do 4 hour shifts - our phone lines are open 10am - 10pm every day. It is a wonderful service to do. I did it for many years and loved it. One of the things that I got to understand is just how much I could learn about alcoholism from FFs (Family and Friends)
We are required to have 1 year sobriety and to have attended a workshop plus at least 2 training sessions before we are let loose on our own.
Within London, there are many intergroups and each intergroup has someone on duty at home to receive details of any 12th step call that is required in our area, they then pass that on to someone on the 12th step list.
Home responders are vital to the service and it's something that can be done by women who can't get out too often or commit to any regular service at a meeting due to childcare issues. They can do this from their own home and it gives them the chance to be of service.
