Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.
Why don't you take care of yourself and let your brother seek help when he's ready? What's going on with the child? I'd be more concerned about the child than the parents.
You are right. I think a lot about what the future holds, it's a trend of mine that I managed to supress for quite some time, but here it is again.
We don't know much about the child. She's going to be 2 years old this August. Born with withdrawal. I only know that the couple was requested to take it to the hospital a few months ago and they only did so after the police knocked on their door. My brother doesn't let us know what is really going on. We've been trying to get that child out of there since day one, but to no avail.
Again, thank you very, very much for replying!!!
Apart from that it might sound harsh but I would stop living your brothers life and focus on your own.
I'm sorry for your struggles. I do have one thought ....more like a question. Unless you are having problems with alcohol, why come to the Alcoholism board??
Take care of yourself , your niece if there is any way you can help (and there might not be), and try not to get sucked into his drama.

About me being on this board: I don't drink, I can't even stand the smell of alcohol. Also, I don't use any kind of substances. I landed here while searching around for information, insights, experiences about addiction.
About the child: we've been trying since day one to get that child out of there. It's been a long, painfull battle that has resulted in absolutely nothing. Where I live the system barely functions. We have informed all relevant authorities time and time again, but as I said, nothing good has come out of it. Just to give you an idea of how things work here, the child services knew even before the baby was delivered that the mother was on heroin even during her pregnancy and that she had no support network. Despite the reports from the child services, the D.A. believed the mother's statements that she would immediately join a methadone and rehabilitation programme. She never followed through, the social services never really followed up and one year and a half later, she is still using. So is my brother. It's like we are fighting a lost battle.
Nicky, you don't sound harsh at all. You are actually right. It's just so hard sometimes, it hurts a lot.
Again, thank you for taking the time to reply. I wish you all the best in your journeys.

Good luck. I wish I had some super feel good story to help but I just don't.
My other cousin has not been heard from in years now. And everyone seems to be even afraid to ask about him. For fear he may show up, and maybe find out he's not even alive.
Such a terrible ordeal. I wish you some peace. And take care of yourself first.
