Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.
If you were to keep downloading stuff on your computer, not carry out periodic maintenance and ignore suspect software, your machine would eventually become completely cluttered and would stop responding. The same thinking can be applied to the mind as it becomes so full of useless data that there is no longer much space for anything good. By continuing with the Steps, you can de-clutter your mind and become open to new thinking.
When people stop drinking but fail to address the background issues, there is sometimes a state of mind that the Big Book describes as being: “Restless, irritable and discontented”. What I have found is that by trying to do the suggested things, I am at ease with myself. Sometimes I like to b very busy and at other times I am quite happy to do nothing.
As for helping other people, all that I need to do is show up at an AA meeting.
In sobriety I have wanted to be a lawyer, a personal trainer, a rapper, a construction mogul, a therapist, a banker, a movie producer, a writer, an analyst, a politician, and I'll just stop there. My point is my brain can tell me I can be this or that on any given day, especially if I am not going to meetings, talking to other alcoholics, giving back, not willing to act contrary to my thoughts, or praying. Praying has been the most helpful, because it forces me to be on the look out for how God is already doing the best job at doing everything for everyone.
Despite my wordy babble, which I am opened finally to allowing God to put an end to, I have one thing to say, this whole time I thought I needed to do more, and the correct answer is I really needed to do less.
Keep it simple.
