Hi- I am new here. My husband and I have been married for almost 15 years. We have 3 beautiful kids. His drinking got out of control over the past few months (although I know this has been somewhat of a tamed problem for a while). He likes to drink Vodka- but not in front of me. He sneaks it. Buys it at a store and hides it. Lies about it etc. Well he was arrested for a DWI which may have been his wake up call to go to a 30 day rehab which is where he is now. We have tried things prior to this, therapy, 7 day inpatient stay, meds etc In fact, he drank while on antabuse and never got sick. I know he doesn't want to be this way. I know he wants to change. His counselors tell me he is extremely motivated and doing well. How do I even begin to have hope? How can I trust him when he comes home that he won't drink. I truly love this man and I know that under the alcohol is the man I married. Will the 30 day stay help him? Addiction is so awful and hurts so many people. I am so lost, taking 3 kids, working, the house etc all on my own.

It is hard not to have hope, especially when are sober for awhile, attend AA, swear they will never drink again, etc. Unfortunately, your hope might be dashed and it takes a long time to rebuild the trust that alcoholism rips away.
Take care of yourself and your kids. Support your husband, but don't rely on hope. Think about what you will do if he decides to keep drinking.

Family, kids, and jobs will lose to alcohol especially if he's already hiding it, and lying about it.
AA worked for me, and having an incredible support system of men and women who blazed a trail for me. They were cleaned up, with fresh faces, and happy.
I am more like them every day. I wish your husband the best. Welcome. Al-anon is a good place for you, and perhaps your kids.
Your husband is likely a great man, just captured by a terrible disease. He can do it, but only if he wants to!
