My friend Bonnie is gone

wow we were so close for 20 years. She and I were booze buddy’s hardcore , she married my best friend. They lived a luxury life.  I quit the habit about 7 years ago. We would meet up every once in awhile. Less as I got sober and she kept at it 


they did the pre dinner drinks, dinner wine, after dinner sambuca  etc  


so about 2 years ago she had pain in her side and went to the doctor. Her liver was cirrosed and she started turning a yellow ish. Color. Then she went to rehab and got on the lost for anew liver. Well she did good until Christmas 2019 then fell back and so missed a meeting at the transplant clinic 


then the last two years it was on and off. Never dealt with the issues of her life. She was the type to just act as if all was peachy keen. 


Then about 2 weeks ago I didn’t hear any news, she died Friday. 


Memorial is Monday.  


That could have very well been me. 


Say a prayer for Bonnie and Jim please

Sad for you 1is2many......it is never fun to have someone die of a disease that can be arrested with abstinence......some may get it others never do.....I hope they do a great memorial for her....

You have my deepest sympathy for your loss. Thats a reminder of how deadly this disease can be and I feel fortunate to be alive today and sober. I just lost one of my neighbors in the same way. Alcoholic liver sirosis.

Yea, I heard they are very strict about that due to the difficulty in getting replacement livers . If they find out you had just one drink, you are taken off the list.

The booze is a mask for some deeper hidden issues. Hers was with her dad. Very deep seated anger. She drank at him and the way he treated her mother. Then for ever on it was drink to not feel the pain of that.. I tried to get her to deal with it but she was like entrenched and would not give in.. that’s alcoholism in a nutshell.

I will say that seeing her look all jaundiced it was like some survivors guilt that could a would a been me. In a way she helped me to stay the path

Things are usually able to be worked out. U don’t have to pour alcohol on those deep dark resentments. And I will say 9 times out of 10 it will be related to the alcoholics mother or sometime father

I don’t want to die Like that. But in a strange way I want to hear the details. It’s a mess. Her husband is gonna be lost.

Thanks for sharing this 1is2. It's a decent reminder of how alcoholism as a disease can take the best of people from us because they have deep seeded resentments against others they will not or cannot let go of.

Important reminder that treating our alcoholism can be a daily thing if we desire it to be.

That’s a sad tale of where denial brings us. I built and installed the cabinets for a hemodialysis unit at a local hospital. I had a few service calls after the floor was up and running and had to work around patients. I never thought about my drinking and that I could end up there myself. Total denial.
Sorry for your loss.

    I recently heard a great 2007 song the other day, "Falling Slowly" because it popped up in my newsfeed, accompanied by the sad news that the  male singer, Glen Hansard, just died in a motorcycle accident.  I learned that the song won an award and was featured in an indie movie called Once. I just watched it, and it's really good.  They made it in 3 weeks on a $100,000 budget. It's streaming on...
