Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.
Recovering from a hopeless condition of mind and body, isn't an easy thing to do, but There is a Solution, does say it's purpose, and the whole literature of Alcoholics Anonymous' purpose is to show a person how he or she can recover from a hopeless condition of mind and body called alcoholism. In fact the literature says it will answer the questions of what to do specifically.
Finding out the difference between moderate drinkers, heavy drinkers, and real alcoholics was very important for my own recovery. On pg. 22 of the literature it says if the alcoholic stays away from the drink for months or years, his reaction to life, is much like other men, and once he takes that first drink, something happens, they say, both in the body and the mind, and life becomes impossible to manage and drinking becomes impossible to stop. With that being said, most alcoholics in recovery believe that going forward, treatment of alcoholism will involve a preventative care of doing what must be done to not get in a situation where taking the first drink, is an option.
The literature says on pg. 24 that alcoholics, of themselves, are without a defense against a first drink, and that is why many alcoholics use the fellowship of AA, and use the steps of AA to not be alone, essentially, and to recieve help from another. If we do it alone, which many of us do out of ignorance and pride, frankly right before we do take that one drink, that leads to unmanagability and drinking again too much, we have no idea or ability as well, to foresee consequence we would rather not endure, and so there is a gap there in where we need it to be filled by another, and most of us have that filled with a higher power, or others who understand and want to help. It can be a frightening thing to let go and let the help, help, but for most alcoholics I have been around and helped, letting go of the fear, and embracing the reality that help is a very good thing, is the solution for a life full of problems that needs more solutions.
There says that self-searching, addressing pride and leveling it, being honest about ones flaws or "shortcomings" will have to be considered and done as well. The helpful portion of that is that the literature also says, we probably won't like doing so, but it will help.
I've found that accepting a solution, and working on treating my problem of alcoholism, with a personal decision to trust AA and to be humble about it being a portion of my life, part of God's plan, has given me a deep and effective spiritual experience, or presented an addition to my life that has been giving spirituality to it often. I used to think AA and being in AA was the corniest thing in the world, and my mind would shut down at the thought of having it be a part of my life. For the petty reasons of I won't be cool if AA is a part of my life or women won't want to sleep with me if I am weak and a part of AA, I never really gave it a chance until I almost died from untreated alcoholism.
I have come to believe, that AA has kind of gotten a bad wrap from the world and isn't here to harm or ruin life for anybody, it is only hear to make life better, and more peaceful. I know I am kind of promoting AA right now, and that is something they advise against, but it has been such a blessing in my life I cannot help it.
So if you are ordered to go to AA, or if your family is encouraging you to do so, it is a solution, althought it might not be the only one, and it does really help if you let it really help.
But, I need to be honest here, this isn't an AA group and I would hate to think that people needing help with sobriety won't join or post if they perceive it as solely an AA group.
I write this with love and respect, and think that perhaps it might be a great way for you to write in your journal here, as getting it out in words and reading it for yourself would still benefit you immensely
take care
