Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.

There is a young woman in my AA home group who was also in my relapse prevention therapy group and is in recovery for drinking and is doing quite well, She is very proud of having been sober for several years now, however, she smokes pot like there's no tomorrow and thinks nothing of it.
I mentioned this to my AA sponser and he thinks that anyone attending AA shouldn't be on any mind altering drugs and he said this.....while puffing on a cigarette!

I was recently separated from my wife of 33 years and it's complicated. Anyway I rented a room about 15 minutes away and I see my kids about once a week. I see the people who own the house I live in once in a while but other than that I stay in my room where I do my cooking, wash dishes in the shower, read, color, and sleep. I get out at least once a day. I grocery shop and I attend 2 meetings...

I used to be on anti-depressants, they address a chemical imbalance in the brain and are not mind altering in the sense of getting you high. If you are not suffering from clinical depression (or are drinking when taking them) they simply do not have an effect. That is my experience.
They are normally fulfilling a need in themselves ,that want allow them to keep their mouths shut.
Very common !!

I am not in AA, but I find what bob's sponsor said to sound a bit hypocritical.
Now, then, back to the business at hand. Should I have another cup of coffee this morning?
Cheese and other dairy products are thought to be healthy food and promoted by USDA, the truth is opposite of that.
Cheese is made out from milk. Whats wrong with milk? Lots which USDA doesnt want you to know. Click here to find out more.
Cheese has casein protein and casein morphine. Casein protein is carcinogenic protein that promotes cancer growth at all stages of cancer development. All animal protein promotes cancer growth but particularly casein protein is more potent in promoting cancer development. More information about casein protein, click here.
Casein morphine is a type of morphine that is found in cheese. It is 1/10th strength of morphine used in hospital. The reason people feel good after they eat cheese is because they are eating morphine. People who cannot go by cheese are addicted not to cheese, but to the morphine itself. Addiction to morphine, or any other synthetic chemicals result imbalance in brain and body. Also as with any addictions, one needs more dosage as addiction progresses. Many people replace this cheese addiction to other types of addiction such as tobacco, alcohol, refined sugar, caffeine, and etc.
The mechanism here is same as someone getting addicted to morphine (This is why so many people cannot get off cheese even if they are almost vegan).
Interesting reading though just the same, thankyou!
I would not concern myself too much about what the young woman is doing or how she feels about it. It may not be the ideal thing for her to do but that is entirely her choice.
It can be difficult to hold your tongue when something seems wrong or to step back from other peoples business but ultimately that is the best thing to do.
I like cheese too - good Cheshire cheese, mature Cheddar cheese, Applewood smoked cheese, England is renowned for its fine cheeses...
And I couldn't do without a nice strong cup of tea.
Maybe there is no hope for me after all :-(
I count my sobriety date as the day I stopped putting mind altering, chemicals and substances into my body. I don't smoke, I drink a max I cup of caffinated coffee a day (ironinically only in meetings;) ) the rest if any is decaf. I don't take any chemical sleep or mood aids, etc.
HOWEVER the caveat I'd add is if I was depressed, or needed a drug as perscribed by my Dr who I trust, I'd take it as prescribed only.
I think its dangerous to tell AA's, or anyone else, that they shouldnt take their dr prescribed drugs. Super dangerous.
Gailly, Vermont and Wisconson here in the USA are also known for cheese and among my favorites are sharp chedder, asagio, swiss, and havati, some of which are made in your neck of the woods!
Since we're talking about food addiction, ice cream would have to be at the top of my list,
Sticky, there is a 12 step program for every addiction imaginable and if you're interested, you might want to try EHS which stands for Emotional Health Anonymous. I read their book and that's how I learned about the steps to begin with. Very eye opening and although it's nothing new, it gives a different perspective on these ideals.
God Bless
