Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.
As for you have been doing a little 11th step work if ya use the steps for your recovery?
I will also mention acceptance on your part is key, but ya might want to hearing that right now but in reality it is.
Wish ya well.
Good luck to you and your family....hang in there!
Dual diagnoses is very difficulf for the suffered. The addiction exacerbates the mental illness and vice-versa. Many times, extended in-patient treatment or hospitalization (in a mental health ward) is required. This should NOT be viewed as a shortcoming of the sufferer, but should be viewed as a NECESSARY step to recovery.
In the meantime, remember that there is nothing you can do to get your daughter-in-law into treatment. She has to do it (and want it) herself. Be wary of your own sobriety while dealing with others'. Do not run yourself down or worry yourself to death. You could end up relapsing.
Ask your daughter-in-law if you can talk to her councelor. Tell her that you love her and want to help however possible. But be clear that you cannot ENABLE her behavior. Treat her as you would a sick friend. Treat yourself as a valuable human being. Do not sacrifice yourself for her. Know your limits and then attempt to help her.
