I'd first like to say I'm an alcoholic through and through but for several years I turned to another form of alcohol. I like to call it hard liquor in my lead. In recent years I've been seeing and hearing of many of my old acquaintances passing away from the "hard liquor." I had a close friend pass away last week. She and I did everything together for most of last year. I took it hard when she stopped answering my calls and returning my texts last December. I knew what she was doing without her having to tell me. I like to think I handle death well from working with the elderly for many years. It occurred to me that those people are close to 100 and pass from natural causes. I am taking this one hard. I don't think I have a point to this post, just venting.

Sorry to hear about the loss of your friend. It is OK to vent about such things as it can be hard to make any sense of the feelings of grief and there will be many sad moments of reflection until healing takes place.

There is no doubt that hard liqueur can cause a lot of damage and hasten the onset of alcoholism but other stuff that seems less harmful such as beer and wine can be just as lethal. The nature of the brew really doesn’t make that much difference as an alcoholic will keep drinking until the desired effect is achieved.

Thankyou for sharing. I have seen many people over the years, commit a slow suicide with the bottle but I never thought it would happen to me, but it almost did. I was one of the very few lucky ones.

Thanks for sharing, yes it's good to vent...just getting it out there can be very therapeutic. It's so unreal to see those dying who were once close to us. My first boyfriend died from alcohol a while back....mid 40's. I remember switching from one drug to another, switching from beer to hard....it all does catch up to us. I'm clean and sober these days and am very thankful I turned to Christ who saved me and showed me a better way to do life, but it took darn near half my life. I'm sorry for your loss my heart goes out to you. God Bless

So sorry for your loss. Alcohol is a killer no doubt. Basically its poison but many dont realize it till its too late. You can be different. Drop the booze and get back to living life. Live

My heart goes out to your loss. And I think it is natural for you to take her death hard. Recently my father in law passed away but over 10 years ago, a friend's daughter took her own life and she was only 24. To this day, it breaks my heart.

My experience with alcohol is that any alcohol can kill you. It starts with one drink so.....

Just needed to share that .

Thanks for sharing. I am new to this group having finally admitted to myself that I have a real problems. One day at a time. We none of us are perfect and we need to find support and comfort from others. We are not super human.

So sorry for your loss. Yes alcohol is a killer. It killed my ex husband and was well on the way to killing me til I got into AA 6 weeks ago. I hope you too can find some real life support to deal with this disease. And to deal with your grief. God bless you. Xoxox

Better to vent than to drink! Thanks for sharing! grief started my downward spiral with alcohol last year so I think it's great you are still sober! I hope you start to feel better soon x

I am glad you said something. Denial will only get one drunk. Death is a part of sobriety. When I got sober this last time my first sponsor told me to purchase a black suit, as I will need it. 2 years later I attended the funeral of my 2nd sponsor in CA who died of cancer (38 years sober). Since the day I have attended probably close to 50 or more funerals over the last 34 1/2 years plus years. Some died drunk, some died of various diseases or natural causes, most died sober. My condolences on the passing of your friend. I hope you have some kind of recovery program and if you go to AA I hope you get to a meeting and share about this. Others need to know that one does not have to drink, no matter what.

    check out that smoke ring. It tasted really good. I smothered it with Maulls BBQ sauce which is Local to St. Louis and one of the best I ever had.....

     I was recently separated from my wife of 33 years and it's complicated. Anyway I rented a room about 15 minutes away and I see my kids about once a week. I see the people who own the house I live in once in a while but other than that I stay in my room where I do my cooking, wash dishes in the shower, read, color, and sleep. I get out at least once a day. I grocery shop and I attend 2 meetings...
