For me part of the benefit of having a sponsor was the relationship side of it. Honest relationships with another person were something that I wasnt good at and avoided at all costs so it was really important for my recovery that I started to learn how to do that and starting to develop a relationship with my sponsor was the first step in that.
You cant really do that online - it doesnt provide the possibilities that a face to face relationship does.
I just wondered if you want an online sponsor to avoid having to get close to someone - that would be why i wanted one in the past.
I needed the one on one relationshipship with a sponsor. Much easier to bullshit someone over the phone than it is in person.
