Life can change in a heartbeat

Very powerful experience today....a couple were driving down the highway on their way to a resort town nearby when the wife slumped over in the car. Fortunately the husband saw the signs for our health center and pulled in. We are not an acute care facility, but do have emergency equipment. A code blue was called and our team responded to the parking lot and were able to stabilize the wife until an ambulance arrived. She appeared to be having a stroke. Just like that, her life changed. Makes me appreciate how precious our time is! Just a reminder guys, we have to make the best of every minute that we have and I am so grateful that I was clear headed and able to respond efficiently. I have never felt more grateful for my sobriety than I feel right now!!

Oh Deogee! The patient is only 65 and they just retired in January! 20 minutes away from their vacation destination!! Just really reminds us of that while we think we will always have time to get around to doing things...like quit drinking, live a happy life, make positive changes! Life is too precious to put off doing what we need to do today, this minute. Feeling pretty overwhelmed right now, but thankfully, the absolutely last thing I want to do is drink!!

Thanks for sharing, this and so many other things make me grateful every day for my second chance at life. I surely count my blessings, and with lots of less dramatic things like a hug from a loved one or a bright sunny morning.

I know a lot of nursing staff get pretty fed up with drunks and that is understandable I spent my fair share of time on hospital wards as a direct result of my alcoholism.

There are a few nurses and a doctor in my home recovery group, a reminder that alcoholism does not discriminate.

Thanks Antonia! I am really feeling overwhelmed and frankly scared. It just feels like this was a sign for me to get my head out of my backside and get on with living.
