Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.

Hello all. I am currently 8 days sober, and I'm really wanting to drink tonight. I'm coming here to post so I can resist the urge. The weeknights have been pretty easy, but it's Saturday night that is tough. I am an introvert, but i have a job where I work with people and also train/supervise staff. I used to love to drink alone at night on the weekends, so tonight is tough for me..

check out that smoke ring. It tasted really good. I smothered it with Maulls BBQ sauce which is Local to St. Louis and one of the best I ever had.....

I was recently separated from my wife of 33 years and it's complicated. Anyway I rented a room about 15 minutes away and I see my kids about once a week. I see the people who own the house I live in once in a while but other than that I stay in my room where I do my cooking, wash dishes in the shower, read, color, and sleep. I get out at least once a day. I grocery shop and I attend 2 meetings...

You get on more solid ground? Stay strong.
God Bless
I hope you got through the night OK. Let us know how it went.
Hopefully the night has passed with no alcohol and that you still have a clear head.
This could be a good time to think about what you can do to make sobriety easier in the long term. It would be wise to find some way of changing your thinking so that no matter what other people do, you will react in the way that keeps you on the right course. This is something that will probably require outside help and in order to avail of that help you will need to be strongly committed to your vision of a happy and sober future.
There are various options available to anyone who desires to bring about this change of thinking so find one that you think is right for you. Some people do it through counselling and that can work but it is probably dependent on finding the right counsellor. Another option is the AA programme of recovery but that will only work if you are willing to give it a fair go.
I can relate to being an introvert and drinking alone because that is what I enjoyed doing. However, while I still value my own company, I now find it easy and natural to communicate with large or small groups of people. That is one result of the change of thinking that I have achieved through AA.
Maybe you need to get single-minded about sobriety and to make tough decisions. Learn the value of the word ‘no’ and be prepared to demand the respect and support that you deserve. You are an equal partner in the relationship with your boyfriend and maybe you need to be more proactive in telling him what you want and setting boundaries about things that are unacceptable such as having alcohol in the house or drinking in your presence in these early days of sobriety.
