Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.

Then I deciced to get my own test at a local lab. I remember telling them my name is Buck Rogers... that one was taken so I became Buckly Rogers. and the next day I got the results back and the alt was 150 plus.. the doctor wasnt lying!
So I went back to the dr and he told me to go to an aa meeting a day if i wanted to quit. That was june of 12. I just finished up a meeing today. its the only way I found I could cope with life. I also met alot of ppl that have the same issues and we lean on each other ..
So welcome warmest There are ways but it takes changing up the routine. Have you asked your dr what they recommend?

The logical thing that most people would do when a doctor says that drinking is affecting their health is to either quit drinking or cut back drastically on the amount taken. Alcoholics find it difficult to do either for a prolonged length of time. They will often use all sorts of reasons to rationalise that what they are doing is not a big deal and that the doctor is overstating the gravity of the problem. I used to argue that people who said that alcoholism could kill you were over the top spoilsports. Since then I have attended quite a few funerals of people who were killed either directly or indirectly by alcoholism so now I take doctors warnings very seriously.
If you do not have a problem with alcohol, a warning from the doctor should prompt you to reduce your drinking or to quit entirely. If you find it difficult or impossible to do either or if not drinking makes you irritable and unhappy, then you may be dealing with alcoholism. If that is the case, entire abstinence is your only safe option.
The doctor would have no reason to lie to you.
I've been drinking too much for over 50 years. Luckily my liver is okay, but the doctor says drinking has contributed to my heart problem. I've quit for a month or two many times, then would social drink (1 or 2 a day) for awhile, then go on a binge. Probably a pretty typical story.
One thing I've never had was a mentor. Maybe more later.
Smart Recovery might be more to your liking. Give it a try.
I was an atheist and believed in nothing. That was killing me so now I just believe in a hp. I can't explain it but it's the only way I ever found peace and sobriety. But in my analytical mind I subscribe to the Big Bang theory and exactly how did all this universe and millions of others come forth from the same place. I just had to kinda believe that other ppl believe. That's enough just to believe in the group as a power greater than me.
I find the G word a hard sell but...
It took some ego deflation. Some humbleness.
This life sober is much more healthy. I look forward to tommow I don't dread it like I used to. I'm living not merely existing it is possible to be happy and sober. Live

Buckley. Lol
If you want to quit, then I can tell you what worked for me. I went through 4 days of detox, followed by a 3 week IOP (Intensive Outpatient Program) followed by 3 months of relapse prevention group counseling.
Throughout all the help I received, regular attendance at AA meetings were a requirement. No excuses were excepted and we were not allowed to play the blame game as our counselors were very strict which was exactly what I needed. It was a very healing experience. I needed all of this to give me the foundation I needed to maintain my sobriety.
This was over 8 years ago. Today, I live my life by the 12 steps and I have never been happier!
God Bless!
BobInMaine, I want more than to stop drinking, but I think I'll just have to settle for not drinking.
Yes, I liked to drink. But I don't miss it ........ Not at all .

Just kidding. My mother died when I was an infant. I don't think I saw my dad have more than a beer. And inside there is no good.
I know, guilt is part of alcoholism. I can recite the book. LLB2, I only miss drinking on Friday nights. Where do I go now?
Thanks everybody for your comments. I need your help.
Personally, I do believe in God but AA still wasn't my solution. I found my support online through forums like this one and sober blogs, lots of sober blogs. It took me years to get sober. Keep working at it and good luck! :)
