Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.
It has been a struggle but overcoming the difficulties will have made you stronger. Be thankful for the good things you now have in your life. Would you swap all of that for drinking?
Well done on your two years.
Those of us who are new to sobriety appreciate storie like yours.
We usually don't stop drinking booze because we prefer coffee or soda. It rips our souls from us and leaves us hopeless and alone.
Alcoholism is a sneaky disease. It will make you think you haven't got one. Be ever vigilant. Alcoholics cannot drink.
I just heard a recovery podcast talking about just this....
"glamorizing" or at least selectively remembering drinking. The speaker said if you miss drinking, do you miss the reality? The throwing up, the shakes, the guilt, the convulsions, etc. etc.
I've never had any of that (except that guilt) and it helped me to hear it.
Good luck and GREAT work. WOO HOO
I like the promises (page 84) and the paragraph that comes after:-
'We will seldom be interested in liquor. If tempted, we recoil from it as from a hot flame. We react sanely and normally, and we will find that this has happened automatically. We will see that our new attitude toward liquor has been given us without any thought or effort on our part. It just comes! That is the miracle of it. We are not fighting it, neither are we avoiding temptation. We feel as though we had been placed in a position of neutralitysafe and protected. We have not even sworn off. Instead, the problem has been removed. It does not exist for us. We are neither cocky nor are we afraid. That is how we react so long as we keep in fit spiritual condition'.
Well done on two years. Stay spiritually well and look after yourself.
