Things I did to make it early on we're to go to bed early or rent movies on demand. Of course I was calling on some other alcoholics when I needed to vent or was squirrely. I couldn't do it alone. I had to get some help.

Good luck, I know it's hard. I used to watch a lot of reality television in my early sobriety, it helped me when I was really depressed.

Ice cream sandwiches are one of my favorites. Just a little indulgence is okay here and there.

Seems to me that your "obsession" with alcohol will only go away if you can convince yourself that regardless of how much you enjoy the feeling of being drunk, the price is simply too much to pay. Every drink or glass of wine is another assault on your body and mind. Quit forcing your body and mind to battle with alcohol. The alcohol will win, it always does.

Ice cream sandwiches? I assume that's not involving bread but something like wafers? Anyway, the mental obsession can be overwhelming, at least that has been my experience and I haven't forgotten how bad that can be. I recall doing similar to what you did like comfort food, going to bed early, getting busy with cleaning the oven or going for a long walk or trying to be helpful to others and praying a lot.

Personally I needed a lot of help from other alcoholics face to face, on the phone etc and a solution that could work for me. Recovery takes a lot of commitment, courage and path finding. Take comfort in the fact that you are not alone in this and that it can pass once you find what works for you in your journey. Many have got to the other side of this obsession and many will continue to do so.

Ice cream sandwiches are usually between cookies, like chocolate chip cookies, and they are delicious.

Good distraction from drinking.

How do you not know ice cream sandwiches?? the best invention ever! promise me, someday you will experience the joy that is an ice cream sandwich :)

I'm across the pond on an alien island, excited by the prospect of creating my own version of an ice cream sandwich. We can buy USA Oreos here so it may be hitting our shores soon! I hope you are feeling okay today.

@fairilse - well, when they arrive, just know that I believe "Fat Boy" to the best or all the ice cream sandwiches. And perhaps at that point we will need to create a "Fat Boy" support group here, because they are quite addicting and delicious. :)

And just so everyone knows I am doing much better today - getting ready to go for a run (cause I did eat those ice cream sandwiches)...so some miles are now required.

Glad you are doing better! I'm not a runner, but working out almost always makes me feel better

Hey Lost! Sounds like you and I have alot in common!! I couldn't wait for the swhawn truck to get here! For those of you who don't know, and I know I spelled it wrong, but it's residential ice cream and frozen food delivery.

It's a good thing I run every day or I might have trouble with my weight.

@bobinmaine - Amen to that!!! I run so I can eat...I did a half marathon a couple of weeks ago and a 10K last weekend - amazing what you can do when you are spending your evenings in a bottle :)

Great job not drinking. TV can be hard.
