In his 1637 "Discourse on the Method", the French philospher René Descartes wrote "cogito ergo sum", which translated from the latin means "I think, therefore I am".  Descartes was responding to the skeptics in philosophy at the time who were questionning our very existence, suggesting that our lives were actually an illusion or ruse with humans as the puppets of some higher power or authority.


I can think, feel, love, experience pain and loss, and therefore I must exist.  I am taking this one step further: I am sober, therefore I am.  With sobriety, I can experience life at it's fullest, without the numbing effects of alcohol.  Life under the influence truly is an illusion...

Exactly! However, I would take out the word "puppet" and believe I am here because I chose to be here, for learning, growth, and expansion.

Agreed. As a man thinks in his heart, so he is. We are a sum total of our thoughts. Being sober is thinking sober. Thinking sober is acting sober. Acting sober is living sober. What a great life!

    check out that smoke ring. It tasted really good. I smothered it with Maulls BBQ sauce which is Local to St. Louis and one of the best I ever had.....

     I was recently separated from my wife of 33 years and it's complicated. Anyway I rented a room about 15 minutes away and I see my kids about once a week. I see the people who own the house I live in once in a while but other than that I stay in my room where I do my cooking, wash dishes in the shower, read, color, and sleep. I get out at least once a day. I grocery shop and I attend 2 meetings...
