I finished step 5 yesterday. It didn't feel the way I thought it would. I thought I failed because I was detached and couldn't connect with my emotions. I didn't really feel a release. It was tearless but exhausting. Funny thing is, today I feel different, lighter, freer, happier. If nothing else I got past a step that has tripped me up EVERY time I got to it in the last 6 months. I just feel good.

THEN, I decided to tell my other bro and sis in law about my alcoholism. After I convinced them that it wasn't a late April Fool's joke, they were fully supportive, only disappointed I hadn't told them sooner.

AND... I STILL HAVE NO DESIRE TO DRINK. I have no obsession to drink. Do you hear me? It's starting to feel real. I am 20 days in and I feel freakin AWESOME. WTF? I dunno. Just grateful.

Trying not to get complacent or over confident, but I am living a miracle right now. All you fellow newcomers, just don't give up. Keep trying. It's a new day and today just might be the day you put it down for good.

I'm so happy that you're finding some peace & that you came clean with your family. They will be a great source of support it sounds like.

Hold on to that gratitude.....it's such a fantastic state of mind & heart isn't it? Yay you! Yay me! Yay us! Woohooo!!!!! :)

Isn't it easier to not drink when you don't want to drink???

I am soo happy for you. I will keep thinking of you more than you know. You have so very much energy , I am envious....but your young. Use your youth, experience and remember it, do things you never thought you would......you will start to understand so much.

Taking the fifth is huge, my friend.This is what often sends others back out for another shot or twenty. Feels damn good, don't it? Little spring to the step, couple of pounds lighter maybe? It's called dropping the rock. Thud.

oh by the way congrates on telling your family.I never had to do that.everyone new I was a mess.I have actually had people more than once that I havent seen in awaile say to me, wow! your still alive?

Whoooo another step forward HTL. This one was huge for me, and like you, there were not too many tears. They were yet to come, and I welcomed them when they did, no longer afraid of what was behind them. You can't fail these steps, just do your best at this time. That's excellent news! It took me time to fully feel the benefits of step 5 but a huge freedom was definitely one of them. I had allowed someone to see me for the first time and nothing terrible had happened. In fact it had allowed me to feel connected with someone for the first time in a long time. I didn't really realise how life changing step 5 was until a while afterwards when I looked back on how much things had changed as the result of it.
