I have NEVER, in my life had such difficult times getting new jobs except until after I got married and carried my husband's last name.
It looks Vietnamese.

It doesn't sound like it, it actually sounds really stupid.
I've always hated this name but I kept it even after we divorced because I did not want to carry my father's last name. oohhhh wonder why....I have always suspected I was not getting called for interviews because of this name. I have excellent experience and great references. Well I have been unemployed for 10 months now due to being laid off.
I decided to change my resume and use my maiden name hyphenated with my married name.
I submitted a resume today at 1:30 and got a call before 2pm. I previously submitted a resume to these folks. This is the 2nd time this has happened since I've been using the hyphenated name. The other place I also applied to previously and they also called me the same day. I thought I was a shoo-in with them but guess not. Anyway....
Now you tell me I have just been imagining racism cuz of my married name.
This is really sad.
Once I get a job kicked in I am paying to get my name changed to something I want.
I don't want my married name and I certainly don't want to carry my father's name.
There was a study done about this on Date Line or 60 minutes in regards to black peoples' names. Same resume except with different names. The names that sounded or looked more American were called for interviews.

It interrupts their day and they don't like that.
I know. I've turned away many walk-ins.
They want to make the call when they can find the time to do so. And some of these jobs are a good distance and the amount of resumes a person needs to distribute are not just a few.
Not to be argumentative but it sounds like a lot of wasted time unless one is employed already and has their attention on one company.
I really want to get my baby toe into Cisco and I am seriously thinking of giving them a face-to face. Other than that...hell...I've been sending resumes left and right and half the time you don't even know the name of the company or their address cuz they don't want you to know.
They don't want walk-ins.
That's just the way it is these days.

I worked with a man whose name was Ted Bundy, Tom Jones and gosh one other I just can't remember.
But poor Ted Bundy. I believe he worked in our sales dept. in Washington. uh..not DC
I believe I expressed sadness.
But now that you mention it, it does anger me.
And anybody who has been discriminated against well...gosh darn it, should be angry.
