Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.

This question was asked by my iop counselors way back when I was in treatment.
I don't know why but my mind keeps going back to it.
I think what it did to me to answer was make me feel like I have a purpose in life, that I am important and that I am a part of God's grand skeme of things.
I thought I'd ask it of each person here just out of curiosity to see how people look at them selves in their sobriety or how you look at yourself while trying to get sober if that be your issue..
I guess I don't wont to be remembered as a drunk or addict, I would hope to be remembered as a person who overcame the odds, finished a marathon, got drunk but got sober and pretty much stayed that way while living life by the 12 steps.
I could go on but want to yield the floor to others for your comments.

check out that smoke ring. It tasted really good. I smothered it with Maulls BBQ sauce which is Local to St. Louis and one of the best I ever had.....

I was recently separated from my wife of 33 years and it's complicated. Anyway I rented a room about 15 minutes away and I see my kids about once a week. I see the people who own the house I live in once in a while but other than that I stay in my room where I do my cooking, wash dishes in the shower, read, color, and sleep. I get out at least once a day. I grocery shop and I attend 2 meetings...

I have this friend that's been around the fellowship for 20 odd years. He's always the first the stop and buy someone a coffee, walk to the other end of town, walk them home late at night when they have a train to catch in a bad neighbourhood.
He's been involved in telephone service for years. Some of the youngbloods seem keep trying to take over and seem to find him a bit outdated, but he just quietly gets on with things. He's been volunteering with Samaritans for 10-15 years, but funnily enough you never hear that from him just from other people.
Always has time to spare to listen to others, rarely grumbles. A real character with a sense of humour but quiet with it. He has this horrific physical problem that he's been living with for years, but again never talks about it and you just wouldn't know except when you get to know him well or hear it from someone else.
If I can get close to that, I'll be happy

For me, it's way too early to say anything, I think. I lived 40 in a fog, the last 25 in an alcoholic one. It's not even two years, and so I can't say how others would remember me. I certainly have ideas of how I would like to be remembered, but it's not in my control. Not gonna play God on that one. Whatever it is, will be. I can certainly say that I too don't just want to be remembered as an alcoholic, but it's part of my life story and wouldn't want that expurgated from my story.

SPRING 2013 by Linda W.,Christine H. and Gina H. coworkers to Chris for almost 20years!
Nearly everyone knew Chris, and Chris knew nearly everyone. She was the kind of person you'd want to share your news with. She listened attentively, whether the news was good or bad, and shared a smile, a hug or a few words of her hard won wisdom.
Some people will remember Chris for her honesty, her sincerity, and the introspectiveness that only comes from dealing with life's challenges. Others will remember her sense of humor, her infectious laugh, her spirituality.
Some will miss her smile and her Patchouli perfume.
She covered her desk with little symbols of faith and love, and was always ready to donate one to someone who needed it more than she did.
People come into our lives to give us something, whether it be a gift, a blessing, or a lesson we need to learn. Chris taught those whose heart's she touched about love, giving and caring for others. That was her gift to us. Christine;s last gift on earth was being an organ donor . Through her generosity and caring for others, she was able to save lives. In honor of her gift, Winthrop Hospital raised a flag on the day she donated organs to save anothers life.
Chris;s death was sudden and unexpected, and she left us way too soon. But Chris's spirit was strong and will always be with us.
Simply put, she was a good egg!!

As for what I'll be and be remembered for - who knows. Maybe if I let go of what I think I am I'll surprise myself :o). I'll keep trying meantime

Today I know I do the best I can, I know I have a (mainly) good heart and I know I am taken care of.
For some reason, I don't even think about this kindof stuff...just doesn't go into my thought process.
Maybe I will have a think (if I get some space in my brain haha)
I hope there are people who remember me as making a positive difference in their lives.
Other than that - Im not sure Im very worried about how I will be remembered when I'm gone - because Ill be gone then.....
