Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.
How Alcohol ruined my life:
A poison that is so insidious that it effects every single aspect of your life even after you have stopped using it
I don’t get invited to things anymore, I have little to none of a social life anymore
I hate seeing pictures on Facebook and people sending me snaps of the “great time they are having” and then I think, why can’t that be me?
Why can’t I be there?
What is keeping me from being there?
The alcohol. And of course I can go to a party and not drink, but when people know I am not drinking I am immediately an outcast.
When I would drink. I was just using it to numb the harsh pains of reality and I wouldn’t just “get drunk.” I would get smashed. To the point where I would black out.
I was “that drunk girl that everyone had to take care of.”
Now I am bitterly alone.
A night that has been filled with the dread of the night never ending. Constantly checking my phone and seeing all of the “exciting” things going on. And that just amplifies my feelings of loneliness. The feeling of not belonging. And then comes the feeling of wanting to die. Except I don’t really want to die. I just want peace. I just want to feel like I can breathe and that everything will be okay. I am just so exhausted from feeling so intensely alone and horrible. I want this pain to go away
Alcohol used to be my friend. Until it betrayed me. And its has betrayed me in two ways. One, it made my pain go away but the aftermath came back to bite me in the ass. And two, without it my social life seems to have diminished to nothing. I don’t “get wild anymore.” People joke and tell me that I am “old.” I don’t even know what the fuck that means. Because I’m not. Literally the only thing that has been taken out of this equation is that I don’t drink anymore. That is it. I don’t understand what is wrong with that.
So thank you, alcohol. For completely ruining my social life. For ruining my body. For ruining my mind. And for tainting my soul.
*I'm sorry this is so long, and it may not make a lot of sense because as I was writing it I was crying A LOT

check out that smoke ring. It tasted really good. I smothered it with Maulls BBQ sauce which is Local to St. Louis and one of the best I ever had.....

I was recently separated from my wife of 33 years and it's complicated. Anyway I rented a room about 15 minutes away and I see my kids about once a week. I see the people who own the house I live in once in a while but other than that I stay in my room where I do my cooking, wash dishes in the shower, read, color, and sleep. I get out at least once a day. I grocery shop and I attend 2 meetings...

You are making a lot of sense and I know how you are feeling. Someone here posted a letter titled "Goodbye my Liquid Friend". If I can find it, I will message it to you if you like. It really sums up what you are feeling.
But please don't look at it like you are ruined. You have been transformed. Once you get out of this initial funk about the change you will be amazed at how much better your life will be. The only way you will be ruined is if you let Demon Alcohol continue to ruin you.
How would you like to spit in the face of this poison? Can you imagine being so confident and at ease with yourself that you are the life of the party and completely sober?
I have a lifetime of experience in HOW NOT TO DO IT RIGHT and I would hate to see you making the same mistakes. You are at college if my memory is correct and that is a fantastic opportunity. However, college only gives you a half education at best and to be successful you need to fill those important gaps.
You want to be at the party of life and you CAN be there. First, you need to fall in love and the person you need to love is YOURSELF. You can be so self-confident and assured that nothing will ruffle you. Someone at the party disagrees with what you say; something embarrassing happens on the dancefloor; your friend is wearing an expensive dress that you cannot afford to match – none of that will matter because you are at ease with yourself.
Here is what you can do. Dry up the tears and turn off Facebook for a while. Look up AA meetings in your area and go along a few times every week for the next three months. Don’t let ANYTHING put you off. Listen to people sharing, especially other women and stick with the winners.
The best time to start is RIGHT NOW so get busy looking.

I can safely say that when you get a years sobriety behind you, maybe less, it all depends on how long it takes for you to heal. It took me about 8 months. You will be an example for others! many drunks will want what you have and they will ask you how you did it! They will beg you to help them stay sober so they can have a happy sober life like you do!
I use to work for this company who had a CEO that was a great example to all of us. He use to walk the walk and talk the talk as they say. I remember, every winter, he would rent a local hall and give us all a fantastic Christmas Party and we would all bring our spouses with us. The CEO would steal all the guy's wives, one at a time of course, take them up on a table and dance the night away with each one. Of course, he had to slip them a $20 to get them to dance with him but they all loved taking the owner's money. He would act totally crazy and really let loose while dancing and would make us all laugh and clap our hands.
The following day, the owner would come into the mill and visit all the workers suffering from a hangover and he would brag about all the fun he had despite being totally sober the entire night! That's right! The owner did not drink at all! What a great example he was and we all admired him for that. I keep thinking you could be just like him if you put your mind to it!
God Bless
