Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.
I'd suggest trying a small meeting at first
Now I enjoy both, going to meetings and writing to fellow DS members when I don't feel like going out. It is the best of both worlds. Do what works for you as long as you feel you are moving forward in life again. alice
There are many different routes to take on the road to recovery. I think taht if you are able, counseling with a person that specializes in addictions is a good ground point. Someone who is aware of the different options out there and can guide you based on your situation. You can get good information atAA, and meet people who know lots about recovery (it is not as overwhelming as it may be portrayed here tonight, promise). In addition, if you feel the need, Out patient and even in patient treatment is a very good option if it is available. With all of these-you have got to work really hard to change your life.
Haven't seen you around for a while. I loved your avatar of the tiger dancing. LOL, I used to watch it for minutes at a time.
Anyway, AA was the only way for me. I know of some people who went to AA mtgs for a while, then stopped and appear reasonably happy but not many. I also had Generalized Anxiety Disorder with Panic Attacks when I sobered up.
I remember sitting in a meeting with a girlfriend and the blood began rushing from my head down to my toes. I wrote on a napkin to her "oh my God, I'm having an anxiety attack". I began reciting the Serenity Prayer. It worked briefly. I didn't have to leave the meeting.
Sorry, I don't know what will work for you. What I do know is that even though I only know AA, the reason I'm sober today is because I want to be. Based on that desperate desire to not live like I was living, God answered my sincere request. Best wishes on whatever method you achieve sobriety.
