Welcome to the group! I remember I had all kinds of trouble being an alcoholic. Nearly died a few times, and nearly got arrested a few times . I figured it was time to quit but I couldn't do it alone. I needed help. My first stop was AA and I had the first few meetings by myself out in the parking lot. It took a few times and alot more courage then I thought I could muster, to get me through the door with the sign on it that read "AA Meeting inside"!

We help each other here by sharing our stories so don't be afraid to speak up.

I met my bottom in alcoholism last year, after a suicide attempt and the worst blackout I have ever experienced. I was lucky to have an acquaintance (now a good friend) who had 5 years in AA, and was willing to go to my first meeting with me. I have been sober for 13 months now, and have more strength due to the fellowship I have found with other alcoholics.

Dailystrength is a wonderful community. I hope that you find the support you are looking for.

I was an alcoholic for a decade. Sober now for 17 months. In my recovery I have focused on healing my emotional health. Because once I stopped drinking I realized it was a mess in there. If you are anything like me and have avoided taking care of yourself then maybe now is the time. It was scary at first until I started to see that fear of change can be flipped over. Embracing the need for change is incredibly empowering. Creating sobriety is the greatest gift I ever gave myself. Why deny yourself that? Just reaching out means something. Go with it. It will lead you to places you can’t see yet.
