Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.
Taradactyl
How do YOU beat them?
When compulsion defies all rational thought... When your insanity gets so loud that all you want to do is quiet it even at the cost of all the good things... When all the pain and suffering of your last drink is blocked from your thoughts... When you are past the point of prayer... When you stop thinking...
When "struck drunk" all of a sudden starts to make sense...
There has to be a way to switch off the urge to drink, no? I used to be able to white knuckle it. The last time I drank, I never even hit the point of white knuckles.
I'm not there, but I have been there, and never want to go back to it. I know a lot of newcomers feel this from what I hear in mtgs and on here. It's those MOMENTS right before a relapse.
---
I beat the fuckits by deterring them. It is so freakin hard sometimes. The fuckits are like a magnet constantly pulling at me. Meetings. Meetings. Meetings. Helping other people. Talking to sober friends. Distraction. GOYA. It's a race it seems. Demons breathing down my neck some days even still. I know there is a solution. I am just not there yet. Have to just keep moving. Action. Sponsor. Steps. Follow YOUR program, whatever it is, and keep moving. THAT choice IS ours... ACTION. Now. Don't let yourself get to fuckit.
I hope this helps someone else today. Helped me to write it.

check out that smoke ring. It tasted really good. I smothered it with Maulls BBQ sauce which is Local to St. Louis and one of the best I ever had.....

I was recently separated from my wife of 33 years and it's complicated. Anyway I rented a room about 15 minutes away and I see my kids about once a week. I see the people who own the house I live in once in a while but other than that I stay in my room where I do my cooking, wash dishes in the shower, read, color, and sleep. I get out at least once a day. I grocery shop and I attend 2 meetings...

The long term solution for me was the steps and a spiritual awakening which removed the obsession to drink meaning I dont have to deal with those moments any more because I just dont have them. This isnt relief, it is release and an infinitely better solution.
Those techniques are invaluable while we are getting to the solution but the shorter time we have to rely on them the better and they certainly didnt provide a reliable permanent solution for me.
Avoiding my triggers and calling my sponser, saved my sobriety on occasions too numerous to mention!
God Bless and tc!
So far distraction, action, and also meditation have helped. I've also "pretended" to let go...and that helped. Sort of said to myself, ok self, want a drink HAVE ON. Go on, if you want to, you can. Do you want to? And I answered myself hell no.
I hate being bossed around or pushed, even by myself:)

I bought a bouquet of flowers, a febreze "willow blossom" scented soy candle and some weight watchers lemon creme cakes. :)
Now, I'm going to go take a shower, put on fresh, clean, summer jammies and get in the bed and watch tv, enjoy my flowers & nice smelling candle & eat some lemon cakes.
That's how I handled my "fuckits" today. :)
I have been there several times, several. It always starts with complacency in my program. I quit working with others, I may still attend meetings, but I dont share, or I am thinking about something else the whole time. There is a big difference between hearing and listening. Then my prayers, get shorter, less sincere, I quit making gratitude lists and feeling grateful for sobriety. etc....... Then all that has to happen is Hungry, Angry, Lonely, Tired, or a dozen other situations and I find myself watching a relapse happen to me, powerless to stop it even though I know good and well that a drink is just going to make it worse. I will just have to deal with the same problems I have today, but with a hangover. I really hate hangovers. Mental suffering is horrible. I cant wait to get to a meeting tonight. I am gonna share on whatever the topic is, and try to listen and maybe even get there early to talk to a newcomer or two. God bless!
PEACE,MARK
And it would begin all over again.
What he does is just what has been suggested. Service work, meetings, Gratitude list, God, the steps etc. My buddy Don says, "If you can get through the minute you can get through the hour. If you can get through the hour you can get through the day. Before you know it you've chalked up another 24 hours, then another, then another".
And so it goes....
Whatever it is I'm doing... BB work, Steps, Service... it is working. If I continue doing what I'm doing on a daily basis, I may never have a fuckit day. If I do, that will become my "present" and I will hopefully focus on it then. Or not. Don't know, do I? It's not my present now and that's all that matters. Today is a good day and I thank God for the gift of sobriety He has so graciously given me.

I think as time moves on,, you begin to have faith in whoever or whatever is running your show.
When you can apply a step for any and all situations you will have relief.
I can say I don't fully "obsess" on drinking anymore. Times may come maybe once/ week , but the thought is really , really short.
I can dispose of with ease.
This topic is too important to leave at the bottom
