Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.

I went to my dr. last week and discussed my alcohol abuse and he was very kind and understanding about the whole thing. We did a blood screen and UA. The results are in but they told my wife and she did not write anything down other than elevated liver enzymes, I had blood in my urine and my platelet count was low so I have to get it rechecked in 6 weeks. My problem is I called to have them tell me the results with values so I can research some more. Only problem is the Dr or nurse can give me the results and they are seeing patients until this afternoon and Im freaking out! I had blood work done 2 years ago and my levels were a little elevated so I cut back but Ive been really bad about drinking for the past few years and am terrified I have done serious damage. Ive told my wife and mom I have a problem and they will support me any way they can and Im looking for AA meeting close to home so I can start the road to recovery but Im very scared right now. I know many of you have been through the same thing as I but I just needed to vent a little. I will overcome this but the not knowing is brutal.
Thanks for listening.

check out that smoke ring. It tasted really good. I smothered it with Maulls BBQ sauce which is Local to St. Louis and one of the best I ever had.....

I was recently separated from my wife of 33 years and it's complicated. Anyway I rented a room about 15 minutes away and I see my kids about once a week. I see the people who own the house I live in once in a while but other than that I stay in my room where I do my cooking, wash dishes in the shower, read, color, and sleep. I get out at least once a day. I grocery shop and I attend 2 meetings...

On the good side that doctor has not called in "life flight"
I used to routinely knock back a bottle of Vodka a night. The following morning I would have a dull ache in my lower right abdomen. I was convinced that it was some sort of terminal liver disease, so I avoided the doctor. Every morning I would swear off drinking and every evening down another bottle for medicinal purposes
When I finally fessed up and got checked out, they found some hardening of the liver (no surprise) and the enzymes were totally out of whack, plus I was borderline diabetic.Cut to the end of the story all of these problems solved themselves over time once I stopped drinking. I obviously have some genetic blessings
The doctor told me that the hardness in the liver was in the lap of the gods. It could get better, worse or stay as it is. But if by chance it did get worse the solution would be some sort of transplant... and obviously I would not score very high on the waiting list if I continued my self abuse. What I took from this was that the doctor was not prepared to do much more unless I made a change.

And I was doing the same think about going to see the doctor, I was having some discomfort as well and would self-medicate. Not the smartest thing to do I know. I have an ultrasound scheduled to check the damage to liver and kidneys and go from there.
I still have freak out sessions and sometimes I get frightened and don't fully know why. I got sober and that is all I want.

I had labs back in March and everything looked good. My triglycerides, which had been sky-high for years, were within normal levels and all of my liver enzymes were within normal levels. No more stomach pain of any kind.
My point is, that the liver seems to be a pretty forgiving organ, so hopefully any damage isn't permanent.
Hang in there!
Nice to know yours returned to normal, gives me hope mine will return as well.

ALT was 57 with a normal range of 55 or lower
AST was 99 with a normal range of under 34.
Last time my stats were ATL of 101 and AST of 73 so values are coming down but with no more alcohol my numbers should improve in 4-6 weeks.
I did have small traces of blood in urine so Im going to see a urologist and a GI doc to go over liver issues with me.
I feel much more hopeful I can beat this.

If you are a heavy person, that could also explain the elevated liver enzymes. My ex had that and was told she had fatty liver disease which comes before sirosis She was not a drinker and she was told to lose weight which she did and that made her enzymes normal. Her dad died of non alcoholic sirosis from fatty liver disease and he never drank a day in his life.
Just focus on the present and try not to worry about the "what ifs" or you're gonna drive yourself nuts! You know....95% of the things we worry about never happen and the other 5% we can't do anything about!
God Bless!
