It sounds like she is the needy one, if you don't pick up the phone when she calls that doesn't mean you are needy on the contrary. Yeah people in AA make mistakes and some more then others. You'll find people you click with. There was a few people I clicked with really well they are all dead now, so I have to get there myself and make some new friends. A couple of them died sober which was a cool thing, but I miss them just the same. I hope to see them again someday. I have made some great friends in AA and also made some friends from hell in AA. it's just like life out here you will meet all kinds, some are very sick, some people have the intention of meeting you, but then they get scared or side tracked or just plain forget. Your dealing with people with adhd, bad brain cells and everything. Give them some chances. You have lots of friends. There are millions of people in AA and all a potential friend, they are just friends you haven't met yet. take care and be good to yourself, cut yourself some slack and those around you. WE stop drinking but the disease remains and keeps working on us. It's wierd I know but pray for them. I doubt they mean you any harm or are messing with your mind or anything. When you go to a meeting just put your hand out and say hi, I use to like to stand by the door and great even though I wasn't a greeter that day I still do it.

That has happened to me, also, but since AA groups change so much over time,and hopefully you have a good choice of meetings, start going to different meetings.
A great way foo me to make new friends was service: I get several sect. committments requiring speakers, 2 coffee committments and now a treasurer. I meet lots of men and woman as we are setting up the meeting. You can always ask to go have coffee with another woman or meet before the meeting. If the vibes are not there, then move on. The other kinds of service, like working in H & I and public awareness also bring small groups of us together to do presentations and we get to know each other. After just 13 months in AA, I have moe friends - male and female than I ever had "out there". I do not consider myself to be popular or have anything to offer except conversation. Please let those friends go and move on, I promise you will meet more people. Best friends are not really what we need now, those will develop later. Find out what kind of service groups are in your area - it is soooo much easier to get to know people than just going to a meeting and then leaving after it is over. Chin up,hon.

Do you go to more than one meeting? If it's your home group, that's understandable. I didn't realize what a wealth of new experiences and different people there were out there until I did.

Maybe it's just time to try a different meeting. I've met many wonderful friends in AA and some, well, turned out to be not so wonderful, LOL.

I've learned alot about living with others in AA. If someone will talk about others to you, they'll do it TO you as well. This sobriety deal is trial by fire stacey. Where does your sponsor weigh in on these issues?

There are lots of women of substance in AA. In time, they'll find you or you'll find them. Oh, and about that person who said you were needy? If I say the sky is blue and someone else tells me it's green, what color is the sky? If you say blue, you're right. Just because someone says something about you doesn't make it so. And congrats again! If it's your sponsor, on the other hand.....lol!

Hi Stacy. Good advise. I have no close "friends" yet either from my AA home group. I have started a hiking group that enabled me to get to know a couple better and opened the doors to possible friendship. We also go out for coffee and breakfast after my Sat am womens group and this has helped get to know others. I honestly don't know if I will ever have a "best" AA friend but I certainly like and respect many that I have met. Friendships take time (especially for me) to develop. True friendship requires honesty and trust. Lets face it, us alcoholics made shambles of honesty and trust while we were drinking so it will take a while to rebuild.

Good advice here. May I add that I amnot in AA, and your difficulties sound familiar to me in my quest to make friends with other Moms in my neighborhood. It is simply hard to find people to click with, period. I think I can make many aquaintances, and people who I can call once in a while to say hey. But to form real solid relationships, like Poo says, takes a lot of time and trust building. Don't push it, just keep reaching out to women and the "right" one(s) with whom you can form a real bond will come, when the situation is right.

For now, enjoy simple aquaintances and see what comes of it?
