Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. and WOW! I've never been designated driver and it wasn't on my "to do" list last night. Over the course of three hours, my friends texted me no less than 20 times asking me to come out for happy hour. I politely told everyone "no thanks, I don't feel like it tonight." Finally I said, if anyone needs a safe ride home let me know.
Well around 7pm, I got the call and went to pick three of my friends up. They weren't ready until 8:30 and begged me to come inside. I waited on the street in my car.
I learned three things last night....
1. Drunk people stink and I told them so. The response was "vodka has no odor." I remember when I thought that. It does and it stinks!
2. Drunk people are embarrassing. I forgot to turn my headlights on and a nice man walking by was motioning to to let me know. One of my friends rolls down the window and screams "she's drunk." WTH!
3. Drunk people have no idea what they are saying or how they sound. Ummm, we've been in the car 20 minutes and I've heard the same story 3 times. Oh and some of the words are made up!
Keep in mind none of us are kids. All of my friends are in their late 30's early 40's.
Oddly enough, I needed last night. I have no urge to drink and behave that way. I cringe thinking about all the times I behaved like this (and if I'm honest...much much worse).
Anyway Happy Friday and Have a Sober and Amazing Weekend!

I invited Bill to have dinner with me last Sunday. He wasn't willing to drive 7 hours to mid Michigan and teased me with his beautiful ribs!!! So, of course I ate alone and had cedar salmon

check out that smoke ring. It tasted really good. I smothered it with Maulls BBQ sauce which is Local to St. Louis and one of the best I ever had.....
I noticed that without intention, I changed friends I found my old alcoholic friends boring. I just got involved in other activities and made new friends there.
I was pathetic!
You did good, I am proud of you! I too have found that as I spend more time sober that I have found other
" Playmates and playplaces"
and yes drunk ppl do stink. God has a way of putting situations events in our lives at particular moments to keep us on the path.
and the same story over and over... I had a real close friend and when I got sober and he didnt he would tell me the same story every time we would get together... I got to the point that I would be able to finish it but just didnt have the heart to say anything.
Alcohol is rat poison and ppl just are fing stupid drunk.

You are an excellent example of being strong and still compassionate enough to help your friends. Just be careful that you do not go in for a Coke and someone thinks it's funny and switches your drink. I commend you for waiting in the car! I think I would have left.
We do have a choice to make it an amazing weekend and I will!
My husband went out and drank last night which I was totally fine with. I hung out with my kids and baked a cake and I had so much fun doing it I never even thought about drinking. He came home smelly, crazy looking, and just kept talking about the same stuff. It made me laugh and thank god I was sober!
